Domain - what's it worth?
 

Ever since 2257 reared it's head, I have been buying a ton of active domains from various sources, and turning my efforts to SEO. And along the way I've picked up some real peaches.

Well earlier this week, I picked up one that gets around 450 pure search engine hits every single day. And it has been getting this type of traffic for over a 4 months. And the beauty is, I'm not changing anything on the site, so there's nothing that should cause the site to lose it's SE position or lose any of the hardlinks that are sprinkled throughout the web.

I know I picked this one up at a great price. But, I'm curious...what would the 'normal' selling price be for a domain like this? The search phrase is a good adult porn phrase. I'm not going to let the phrase out of the bag, nor am I going to disclose the domain name. And it's not one of the ones I have bought from any GFY members. I'm just curious...

450 hits from the engines isnt really that much, a moderate listing on a decent term will do that. IE i get about 400 from a 2nd to third page listing for "blowjobs" or also get around 500 from first page for ones like "big facials", "cum facials", "hot wifes" etc. Allthough with proper pages you should be sending almost all those hits to the sponsor as well, the clickthrus will be better then any other traffic you have*(should)

And if your bottom of the page on results there is a huge diferance in traffic from the first result to the last result.

ALSO saying that not changing the page will make it keep its rankings isnt really reality either, there is many factors playing into the algorythyms (sp its 4am canada day :drinkup ) and page content is only one of them. Yes you mentioned links as well, but some will stay and hopefully more will be added.

NOW im not knocking in ANYWAY the purchase, thats a great little investment, especially if you can build on the site, OR realise what was done to get those 450 hits a day and implement the strategies into the network you are building

well, in short don't expect miracles
that's about 12000 hits to the SITE in a month, if you can manage to send 2000 to your sponsor, that means what 4-5 signups a month

of course a lot depends on the keywords, the site etc.

Thanks for the replies. What the 2 of you had to say makes sense. I was curious after seeing some people jump all over domains which were only producing 20 or so uniques a day. They seemed drastically over valued to me. But, at least now I know that I did still pay a good price for the domain.
