What's a domain name worth? I'm new!

Just wanted to ask people with more experience than me what the cost of a domain name should be. I want to get back my domain name: www.brandoniron.com but need advice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :thumbsup
Thanks!

It's worth the price of registration unless it's branded or easily brandable.

Alex 06-30-2005 12:45 PM

It;s worth how ever much you want to pay for it.

pradaboy 06-30-2005 12:47 PM

Obviously this domainname is worth something to you because of emotional reasons. Try not to show this when conducting business and see where the price goes.

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 12:49 PM

Thanks, guys. That's my point. I don't know the value and feel kind of like a hostage. I know other people have went through this before. I read online that Lex Steele used a lawyer to get his domain back. It sounds complicated and expensive. I just want to do a site under my own name!

Are we talking a couple hundred? Thousands? I need advice.

FilthyRob 06-30-2005 12:51 PM

You should see how much Lex paid to have the lawer get his back. Otherwise, just contact the people and see what they want for it.

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 12:54 PM

Thanks. That's where we are at now. The webmaster is just asking me what I want to pay.

davethetruth 06-30-2005 12:56 PM

Oh, you were an actor. If they don't sell it to you then you should be able to get it back then if you ever trademarked your name, or decided to do it now.

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 02:37 PM

Great! Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the help.
Take care,
Brandon

From the looks of what they have up, they're going to be wanting thousands...
Your best bet would be to get a lawyer involved..

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 03:14 PM

Thanks, Ted! I am a conflict avoider, to be honest, so I just got some advice and registered www.brandonironxxx.com today for less than $10! I am starting to like this whole internet thing....

Muff 06-30-2005 03:21 PM

You should hire a third party to try and aquire the name for you. Possibly sedo.com or someone you know or have refrences.

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 03:26 PM

Thanks. I am kind of a straight to the point guy. If I cannot pay what they want and I don't want to get a lawyer to try to do something, I can just use www.brandonironxxx.com. Works for me!

DaddyHalbucks 06-30-2005 03:31 PM

Don't avoid the conflict, which will grow over time.

The more you build your name/ brand/ business --the more business the cybersquatter will siphon off.

For the best results, deal with it NOW.

Kristian 06-30-2005 03:37 PM

people will type in brandoniron more frequently than brandonironxxx. you'll lose money in the longrun. either change your screen name or buy the domain.

I had a domain "stolen" and was advised that I should offer them about 2 grand. Since it is your name, you could probably make a pretty easy cybersquatting case. But my understanding is it would take a minumum of 2K in legal fees.
So offering 2K could make it much easier.

(I'm not a lawyer and didn't take that advice. Just passing it on)

of course...if ther person who has the name seems reasonable, I would hint at cybersquatting laws and offer 300 for their troubles...and maybe a set of "The Best of Irons" ;)

xNetworx 06-30-2005 03:48 PM

Brandon... why do you not have your own personal site yet? You are the top male performer in the biz. Call a chick a "cock mitten" or "cock puppet" for me so when I see it I can say, "That was for me!" Good luck!

The Ghost 06-30-2005 03:53 PM

Good to see you around Brandon. Don't be a stranger.

I like the term "peener mitten" ;)

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 05:46 PM

It looks like www.brandonironxxx.com is here to stay!
Watch out Yahoo! I am gunning for #1 on Alexa.

Ron Bennett 06-30-2005 10:10 PM

Be sure to register brandoniron.xxx if and when .xxx domains go live...

I wouldn't be surprised if some folks run scripts against popular domains in .com, .net, etc ending in "xxx" and register similar variations in .xxx

Ron

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 10:13 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, Ron. It feels exciting to own one domain name! I am sure Bill Gates started somewhere. Now it's my turn! (Yes, I realize how ridiculous I sound.)

That's the best way to get your name. They will try to rape you otherwise, because they know what the domain means to you.

Much better to have someone else inquire.

But fuck the domain. BrandonIronxxx.com works just fine. You've got the official content, not them. :2 cents:

Brandon Iron 06-30-2005 10:57 PM

Yeah, I appreciate the feedback. After speaking with a few people online, I decided that brandonironxxx.com will do for now. I put a lot of money into my movies. The site will build it's own customers who check it out and decide if they like it or not.

Good lesson in protecting your own name, though!
