I just got the "your card *could* have been comprised" letter from MasterCard. Apparently a few million others are getting the same - and a nice, new card to replace it.

this happened like last week. Amex calls me and asks if i made charges to this this and this... I told em we never use that card. They cancelled it and sent replacement. I did not need to pay for any charges off course. But Amex got hit hard I bet.

i spend $352 on leather and chaps.

These companies will NOT stand still and accept millions of dollars in lost money.

Imagine how many of those cards were charged illegaly already, how many will be charged illegally and how much monetary loss that the card companies have to swallow.

Amex is very anal about the whole spending pattern stuff. They would shut off my card every time I used it in a new city when I would fly to a different city every day. It was annoying but I couldn't complain about their security.

Identity theft isn't going to dissappear anytime soon. This is the new crime of choice -- why rob a store for a couple hundred bucks when you can make off with tens of thousands of dollars without the risk of getting shot?

Anyone know any good identity theft/data security companies that need investing?
