I know I was never this weird

So, I went down to this bar in Hermosa Beach that I started going to 30+ years ago, and eventually became a fixture there for a good 15 years. My ex-wife said it was like Cheers, because everyone knew my name.

Anyway, I stopped going there every night about 15 years ago, then stopped going altogether 10+ years ago when the owner got pissed because some chick that he had been plying with drinks all night, left him and came to me when I arrived. Not sure why he was surprised, everyone knew Lisa loved me.

Anyway, he died, and they ended up changing the name, and cleaning it up, took away the pinball and I left.

Well, over the last year or so I have been stopping by for a quick beer, and once in a while I run into an old timer. Tonight that happened. Haven't seen the guy for 15 years, and we were never friends, just hung out at the same place, had mutual acquaintances. I recognize him, he then recognizes me and we start talking about changes in the place (lots more women), and who is dead and who isn't.

Well, this drunk kid comes up and starts talking to us like "wow, are you guys old time locs?"

Loc? WTF is a loc? A local?

"oh yeah, you must be locs" . . . . . blah, blah, what are you talking about . . . yada yada, I surf the breakwater . . . "

He went to get a drink, and I looked to my buddy and suggested that we were probably talking about stuff that happened before he was born. He nodded in agreement.

The kid comes back, so I asked him how old he was. He uses his fingers to form 3-0.. Amazing

After we got him to leave I looked to my acquaintance and said, "I know I was not like that 20 years ago, I don't think I was like that 40 years ago."

So guys, you are probably wondering why I am telling you this story (I know I was about 2 minutes ago), and the point is this. If you see a couple of guys old enough to be your dad talking, and you don't know them, try sending over a drink first if you want to make us tolerate your obnoxious youth. It really will make it a lot easier on us.

Thanks

I had to edit it as I was starting to give too many details. I stopped about half way and was going to delete it, but decided too much work had gone into it, so I might as well do some good with it.

Hopefully.

For some reason I have a feeling he was too drunk to think straight. In his case, I would probably have done the same thing, but probably be less obnoxious. Well, depending on how drunk I was, of course. :)

That would be a pretty safe bet. Not an acceptable excuse however.

Maybe the guy was just trying to be friendly?

I honestly don't think he cares, especially since he never had to meet you again. Being obnoxious towards someone you have top face the next day, now that would be a totally different story...

and therein lies the problem . . . except I wonder how much of tonight he will remember tomorrow.

Friendly would be sending over a beer or a shot first.

Why do I want to talk to you? Never seen you before, 20+ years older than you, talking to someone else.

sometimes being lazy is as good a reason as being stupid for failing to notice what was right in front of you -- :2 cents:
