"War of the Worlds"...Just saw it
 

Do NOT bring the kids to see this. It is way, way too intense for kids. I mean kids under 13!

It's not the typical ' Aliens invade the Earth ' stuff so be warned. It is really, really suspenseful and has some horror scenes of mass murder that were a bit too intense for me and I thought I had seen it all.

I thought it would suck easter eggs but I was wrong. No it's not the same as the classic 'War of the Worlds' but it does have that constant, constant suspense and lurking terror.

It's more like it should be titled " Everything Else Happens When You Deal With Your Ex Wife, Why Not Have Aliens Invade Too! "

For all it's faults, and there are 'some', it makes up with Spielberg's direction. The screenplay is weak but the production values, acting, costumes, everything is super top knotched. It is well worth the two hours of spooky house ride you get.

Good popcorn summer scary stuff for sure.

The aliens look like they fell off the truck of "Independence Day" so that's my biggest beef. They even shot scenes in my hometown area so that was bugout shit to me, but I mean it. It's too intense for kids. Real family, life/death issues here.

That King Kong movie looks like it's going to be the biggest movie if the year, I mean it. It fucking looks awesome and with Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson directing you know it's gotta be good. I can't fucking wait for the new Kong. I can't wait!

Just seen it also. Sucked ass. Long lags in the action and the plot was weak at best.

Did not even come close to living up to the hype. Cruise sucked in it. I mean sucked. Worst acting job Ive seen out of him ever. No bullshit.

The only one that was good was that little girl. Total waste of 9.00

Oh it wasn't that bad although I can agree that kid did a great acting job.

great review. didnt get to catch it tonight.. just been raining too much and now its very humid.

I just got back from it as well...The first hour and a half are well done but it begins to get clumsy towards the end.

Spielberg has done a good job of using horrific images from contemporary events...bloated tsunami style bodies floating in a river, 9/11 urban destruction etc. He also captures a bit of the feeling of helplessness that a lot of people have these days in the USA.

A lot of the movie falls apart under scrutiny tho...Like why would the aliens bother to bury the Tripods in the past and then come for them now. And of course the anticlamactic ending of the story just doesn't work nowadays....As if the aliens wouldn't be aware they would get herpes and die here.

Also the aliens look an awful lot like the ones from ID4...maybe a bit of Spielburg humour there.

Worth the $9. The theatre I was at was maybe 30% full and this was opening day so it's hard to see it beating EP III.

Shoplifter I agree on alot of your points. The aliens didn't get it for me but their ferocity did. There was alot of Holocaust and Nagasaki/Hiroshima stuff going on but I didn't expect it to be 'hero action thingie' as from the ads it was more of 'regular joe trying to save family' thingie.

It was more of a horror suspense thing for sure. The reason the aliens laid the pods in the past was that's how they colonize. Millions and millions of years old they are so to them 10 million years is like a holiday weekend in time.

When they first attacked though, that shit was ferocious no-fucking-end. Had everyone glued to their seats! Very gripping. The plane crash thing was like major fucked up though. Didn't expect that shit but deeammn! Major!

So for me it was a good suspense drama/horror not big heroes defending the Earth which is what I would rather see. A good Saturday afternoon monster movie though.

FFFUCKNO! Don't EVEN think of taking them to see this movie! There are scenes where the giant tripods are just burning people to ash and they explode and only thing left is their clothes and their bodies just float around like snow on other people. Lotsa death and it ain't like cartoon violence at all.

There are funny interpersonal moments like the peanut butter sandwich scene which is a fucking riot, but other than that it's non stop trauma and tragedy.

I would say no if they are under 10.

Was I right the good guys win in the end???

The end doesn't suck, it's the ending in the book. One of the best endings to a story in literary and movie history. It's how it's played out that sucks to me too.

Dude, after a night's restless sleep I have to say if you go don't bring kids. Or anybody who was near 911. It's too traumatic. Even the reviewers lambasted it as too grisly and horrific. I wish I had known that before I went.

He liked the movie, but didn't say anything about Tom Cruise.

it was definitely suspenseful but was it that traumatic for me? no. harrowing yes. trauma? no.

Absolutely Fantastic Movie. I'm going to see it again.

Ive heard a local respected film critic say the same thing... weird because it really didnt feel that way to me..
