Karma is a bitch. Eminent domain papers filed to take Supreme Court judge's house

It was bound to happen :1orglaugh
Judge Souter to lose land to eminent domain?
Quote:

Clements said a hotel would better serve the public interest because it would attract economic development and increase tax revenues.
Eminent domain comes back, bites Souter
Quote:

On Monday June 27, Logan Darrow Clements, faxed a request to Chip Meany the code enforcement officer of the Towne of Weare, New Hampshire seeking to start the application process to build a hotel on 34 Cilley Hill Road. This is the present location of Mr. Souter?s home.

Clements, CEO of Freestar Media, LLC, points out that the City of Weare will certainly gain greater tax revenue and economic benefits with a hotel on 34 Cilley Hill Road than allowing Mr. Souter to own the land.

The proposed development, called "The Lost Liberty Hotel" will feature the "Just Desserts Café" and include a museum, open to the public, featuring a permanent exhibit on the loss of freedom in America. Instead of a Gideon?s Bible each guest will receive a free copy of Ayn Rand?s novel "Atlas Shrugged."

FilthyRob 06-29-2005 07:31 AM

Oh that's just too funny.

iwantchixx 06-29-2005 07:31 AM

HA... talk about irony,

dropped9 06-29-2005 07:35 AM

that fucking rocks!

eroswebmaster 06-29-2005 07:39 AM

It's not irony, it's not karma, it's a publicity stunt.
But I do hope it works.

crockett 06-29-2005 07:52 AM

That's fucking awesome, I hope they do the same to the other 5 judges that voted for that shit. Serves that fucker right.

tony286 06-29-2005 07:53 AM

go for him

MickeyG 06-29-2005 07:55 AM

I hope it works, this whole eminent domain thing is a bunch of crap. I could understand giving up your property for a public facility such as a school or a highway, but for private development it is simply ridiculous.

nojob 06-29-2005 07:59 AM

I am glad that karma has come back to bite them.

FunForOne 06-29-2005 07:59 AM

next thing they are going to want is your guns! Thats coming, get ready for that!

Evil1 06-29-2005 08:00 AM

We should build a strip club where the white house is. The white house spends money, strip club would make us a lot of money. And in place of the pentagon we could put big water park.

Alex 06-29-2005 10:03 AM

Where can i send donations??? :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

I like the waterpark idea, but I think a casino would actually make more money and be a better use of the amount of space the Whitehouse grounds occupy. :upsidedow

Evil1 06-29-2005 11:30 AM

Does the property the actual supreme court sits on pay taxes? :action-sm

That's exactly my question. Even if it's only symbolic, it's time for people to stand up and say enough is enough with all branches of this royally fucked up government.
How about a Super WalMart at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?! :winkwink:

It would be pretty hard to convince a court that a Super Walmart at that location would pull in more than than 1600 P.A. shakes the country down for every year

People here would cut off their nose to spite their face....

I don't support ANY citizens home being taken for tax dollars or to prove a 'point'.

The legislature needs to fix this....

Billy Bob 6-pack complains to his legislature that his modest property in anytown USA is being taken for minimal value and being handed over to Casino Company. A judge on the highest court in the nation calls across the street and does the same. Which squeaky wheel is gettin' the greasin'?

Forget it. You know nothing about the case and less about the law...

Continue to sit "down under" and pontificate about how you think things are and should be.... I won't hate you for it.

Deej 06-29-2005 12:42 PM

now i havent studied this shit one bit other than word of mouth and tv so....dont lash back with your lawyers response.

i dont think we should all be praising this judge losing his house, yeah fuck him hes a pompous bastard ...holier than thou n all that, and ya....take some of that, your own medicine....

BUT ..... but, dosnt this new "law" or whatever the fuck it is...eminent domain.....sounds a little like Communism dosnt it?....

If someone is removed from their home....are they supplied with another home or are they then ...casualties of War?

Am I missing something?

I need a lil info on this subject...

oh and yea ...ditch the white house for a sick titty joint.....but I'd keep that 5 sided shack.
:2 cents:

Y'all have to excuse me for being so ig'nernt, I'm tryin' hard to git with ya on the OK train that the boys in DC don't have to change the constitution in order to change the constitution but in the meantime it's purty funny to see them get their faces wiped in it. :)

Tom_PM 06-29-2005 12:55 PM

It's nothing new obviously, just the supreme court decision is "new" I guess..
Even in the states where they forbid it, they only forbid it when theres no "blight". Guess who decides if some properties are "blighted"? The local government, lol.

Keep your homes looking nice, and live in a nice neighborhood ;)

Eminent domain is an old established law that allows seizures of property for the "greater good of the public". What's new is that the SC just ruled that any private entity able to derive more income from a piece of property is the "greater good of the public".

xclusive 06-29-2005 01:06 PM

it's pretty funny and hope it goes through

"Economically depressed" is the term that was thrown around. You can have a million dollar mansion in an area most would consider "economically depressed". :2 cents:

Actually most of the houses in the supreme court case were in fact nice and in a nice neighborhood. If your town think they'll get more property tax from a busines than your house they will take your house, PERIOD.

What good is a casino without a strip joint attached?

That doesn't really help. A couple years ago they tried declaring properties in a nicer suburb near Cleveland blighted for private development; by the city's own standards, each and every house in the entire city including the mayor's was "blighted".

Most strip joints don't have hotels, shopping and restaurants involved. Remember, the ruling calls for it to enhance a depressed area, a strip joint alone wouldn't meet the critera. Besides, Republicans approve of gambling, not sex, you have to work within the system :upsidedow.
