Actually, on this point, she's kinda right. In Saudi Arabia, for example, people are still executed for witchcraft and adultery, political dissidents get locked up and are tortured into making false confessions, and women get arrested merely for walking on the streets alone, driving a car or speaking with a man who isn't a direct relative.

The USA has been a country for just over 200 years, a baby as far as most countries go.

Saudi Arabia has been a country in one form or another for many centuries longer than the USA. You'd think, in all that time, they could figure out a way to liberate and civilize themselves, no?

It's funny to point out that pre-Iraq invasion women in Iraq had the most rights of any muslim nation. They were allowed to have jobs, even those above men, they could attend school, AND they could DRIVE cars. Now that we kicked out the secular muslim regime they fear for their rights because of the rise of the religious fundamentalists.

That's true. We have plenty of oil over here - I personally use lots of olive oil for cooking.

Which is an important step. But think of it like this, you can invade them and spend 200 billion dollars (most likely more in Iran of course) to keep fighting there, or you can sink that (whatever the total for Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia - I'll say 500) 500 billion into developing alternative energy. Nuclear fusion + hydrogen cars = problem solved. 500 billion would most likely do that.
