Walmart Founder's Son Killed in Plane Crash

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ail_walmart_dc

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, said John Walton, the billionaire second son of its founder, Sam Walton, was killed in a airplane crash on Monday.

Wal-Mart said John Walton, one of the richest men in the world, was killed when an ultra-light aircraft he was piloting crashed shortly after take-off from the Jackson Hole Airport in Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, Wal-Mart said in a statement.

Walton, 58, was a member of the Wal-Mart board of directors.

Walton is ranked 11th on Forbes magazine's most recent list of the world's richest people, with a net worth estimated at $18.2 billion.

The retailer said Walton is survived by his wife and their son; his mother; two brother, a sister and their families.

you'd think someone worth 18+bil could afford a plane that flew itself while giving him oral

kektex 06-27-2005 06:38 PM

Shit...I just finished reading Sam Walton`s book Made in America minutes ago

Donny 06-27-2005 06:41 PM

For some reason it saddens me to hear about this. I was reading about the Walton's in the Forbes magazine that sits on the back of my toilet.

Walton was an Army veteran who served with the Green Berets as a medic during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Silver Star for saving the lives of several members of his unit while under enemy fire, according to the company. He attended the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.

Dude went and did his duty when called unlike other rich brats we know of.

Spunky 06-27-2005 06:43 PM

One of the reasons I hate to fly ..RIP

i honestly never feel sorry for anyong that dies while flying an airplane.

seriously.

you challenge nature like that regularly and you are going to die.

mankind has too big of balls, and needs to be put in place every now and then.

the invention of the helicopter is another fine example. dumb creation, highly unstable and always disastrous, yet - we spend bajillions on em :haha

i laugh when they go down too

Yes 58 is young. He got screwed out of at least 15 years. If you aren't old enough to collect a SS check you got screwed.

The truth of the matter is that automobiles kill far more and at a higher percentage as well. We just happen to hear about almost every aviation related fatality because they are so rare.

I'm a pilot myself.

John Denver went like that. I can just see John Travolta going that way. Why does money make you think you need to learn to fly and not only fly, but fly these experimental "built it yourself" type planes?

tungsten 06-27-2005 06:50 PM

so sad :(

pornguy 06-27-2005 06:57 PM

Proves money can not buy everything.

Aviation deaths are not that rare unless one compares them with automobile deaths. Donny I thought you were a stats man :)

warlock5 06-27-2005 07:04 PM

Honestly, was this such a terrible way to die? Seems better than a death brought on by stress & being unhealthy to me.

adonthenet 06-27-2005 07:04 PM

Guess he should have thought a little bit more about flying a vehicle that doesn't require FAA inspections or licensure... Just goes to show you that being rich doesn't equate to being smart... .
