Second SHARK Attack in Florida Today 27th 2:pm

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/27/sha...ack/index.html

(CNN) -- Another teenager was the victim of a shark attack in the Gulf of Mexico, law enforcement officials on the Florida panhandle said Monday.

Christa Hild, a spokeswoman for Bay Medical Center in Panama City, said the boy was in critical condition with severe injuries and was in the operating room. She said his family was on the way.

Laura Taylor, secretary for the Gulf County Sheriff's Department, told CNN that the attack happened at Cape San Blas on St. Joseph's Peninsula. She had no further information.

WMBB reporter Kira Mathis told CNN the boy was fishing on a sandbar, about 50 yards from shore, with another boy when the attack took place. He was taken to a nearby hospital and then flown to Bay Medical Center by helicopter.

Witnesses told Mathis he was "in and out of consciousness."

In Panama City, Hild said the boy arrived shortly before noon

I don't know which is worse... the (rare) shark bite incidents or the media feeding frenzy on a slow news day.

pornguy 06-27-2005 01:00 PM

oh boy! They have a man eater in their hands. They should have sent helicopters to search for the shark after the first attack happened. But they were eating shit, and now it happened again.

sickkittens 06-27-2005 01:01 PM

And you said it was rare earlier this morning.

Nader 06-27-2005 01:01 PM

you would think after hearing there's sharks there people would be carefull

ProjectNaked 06-27-2005 01:01 PM

If you do not want to be eaten, stay off the plate :)

Then in that case, technically it's rare to get killed from a gunshot wound, but that doesn't necessarily make it safe.

candyflip 06-27-2005 01:10 PM

They're gonna need a bigger boat.

Every year there are shark attacks in Florida. You only hear about the ones that the press blast out there and make light of. Unfortunately its one of the risks that you take going into the ocean. This time of year sharks come closer to shore and this is when the attacks normally happen.

Yeah, I have been over at cocoa beach a lot.. I surf right next to the peir a lot I see them pull up 5-10 sharks a day mostly all Shovel/Hammer/Spinners "very small 12inches-18inches"

NSI is where all the big sharks that bother me are at.. Last time I was there I saw a 6 footer :-)

Dax 06-27-2005 01:28 PM

I find it so funny.. to read all those shark attacks.. why is it that sharks ONLY attack on weeks/days that there are no other big news? lol

Watch something happen and watch how there are no more shark attacks! So gay!

Minte 06-27-2005 01:28 PM

There's something to be said for boating on the great lakes! :)

Platinum Adam 06-27-2005 01:37 PM

pornguy 06-27-2005 01:38 PM

Yesterday's attack and todays are about 60 miles apart, the odds of it being the same shark are very slim...

jacked 06-27-2005 02:03 PM

thats crazy i wonder if it was the same shark?

LittleSassy 06-27-2005 02:05 PM

whoah...that was fast....

I cant stop watching the collision in your sig :1orglaugh :helpme

Shark attacks are rare.. less than 100 per year I think.. this must be something odd where they've decided to push up prey in shallows in the gulf or something.

leia 06-27-2005 03:08 PM

They had to amputate this kids leg today :(

reynold 06-27-2005 05:53 PM

Mayor Vaughn: Martin, it's all psychological. You yell barracuda, everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell shark, we've got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July.
