Serial Killers, Porn and Christianity

Just a very short time ago I was once in a discussion with a man on an internet message board who was trying to educate me to his line of thinking. He was of the opinion that porn is highly destructive. In fact, he posted this message to me:

Why, I wonder, is porn part of the profile of every pedophile, rapist, and serial killer? A large number of which are psychopaths and sociopaths not pathologically capable of socially acceptable personal responsibility.

My response to him was this:

92% of men who are NOT serial killers were found to be users of porn!

The facts are that more than 92% of men PERIOD are users of porn...

"100% of serial killers were found to be oxygen breathers!" Oh my GOD! Does breathing oxygen make serial killers??

Had I been thinking I would have remembered that the man in question has a Christian background. I failed to point out to him that a very large percentage of serial killers, rapists, pedophiles, etc also have been found to have a fundamentalist Christian background, too. So does Christianity breed serial killers? If you use his line of thinking I guess the answer would have to be, "yes". Now that BTK killer has been caught we've been able to determine that yet another serial killer has a fundamentalist Christian background. Dennis Rader was a very active member of his church, yet this morning he confessed to 10 murders as the BTK killer. And the BTK nickname was one he gave to himself. "Bind them, torture them, kill them". Great.

If I had to choose between porn or christianity as a contributing factor to becoming a serial killer I think I'd have to go with the latter. After all, take a look at some of the verses in the Bible. If the Bible is true, God is the ultimate serial killer. In the following paragraphs I'll share a few scriptures that pastors typically don't bring up in church.

In this verse God commands the Israelites to go into Samaria and, among other things, rip the unborn babies from their mother's wombs. Their sin? They were rebellious. Take a look:
Hosea 13:16: Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

How many men did God kill because someone decided to peek into the ark of the Lord? 50,070 to be exact. Check it out:
1 Samuel 6: 19: And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the Lord, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

How many Ethiopians did God kill for His chosen people? The last time I checked, one thousand thousand is equal to one million. So the answer? One million!
2 Chronicles 14:8-12: And Asa had an army of men . . . And there came out against them Zera the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand . . . Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power, help us, O Lord our God . . . So the Lord smote the Ethiopians.

Even God's own "chosen people", as the Israelites claim to be, are not safe from God's wrath. Here God kills 500,000 of them:
2 Chronicles 13:15-18: Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand. And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men. Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.

So if we are to believe the Bible, God advocates serial killings, don't you think? Of course all of this goes against Exodus 20:13 which states, quite simply, "Thou shalt not kill". But what are a few discrepancies in a book as large as the Bible? Who really cares if a book inspired by God has a few contradictions here and there?

So, porn or Christianity? I've already tried the latter. I'll take porn.

Bible freaks are more likely to be rapists, child molesters and serial killers than normal every day pornographers :)

Something I've been wanting to see stats of, and haven't been able to find, is the number of underage children reported being molested by clergy vs. the number of underage children reported being exploited in mainstream porn companies per year in the US.

The 2257 proposal said that children were 'frequently' exploited by this industry, I'd be real interested to see how the porn industry stacks up against religious organizations. I wouldn't be surprised if religions created far more victims, and it would be an interesting fact to bring up to the anti-porn zealots.
