Why is NYC so "shocked" over the cop ticket quota system?

Heard about this several times on the news this morning. They act like it's a new scam. Cops don't write enough tickets they get reassigned.

In my area when they wanted more city money they even put it in the paper that cops would be writing more tickets. For awhile half the people I know were getting popped. One cop going 60 on a residential street nearly hit me and swung around and went even faster to come give me a ticket. Said I ran the stop sign (which I didn't). He wrote the ticket for "disregard of a traffic device".

Do you know what the difference between "running a stop sign" and "disregard of a traffic device" is? Double the fine.

Only difference in NYC is they lied about it all these years. :1orglaugh

a lot of cities used to have quotas and a lot have done away with that type of system the place where i have noticed it the most are the jersey shore towns especially during hte holiday rush, they pull you over for anything... and have cops on foot walking around almost 24/7 handing out parking tickets, nothing but pains in the asses

I tried to fight a ticket where a motocycle cop clocked me while he was on a sidewalk that prohibited motorized vehicles. I asked the judge if it was ok for the cop to break the law in order to write a 20 dollar seat belt ticket. She looked at me and basically told me yes.

Fuck cops and their quota systems.

Everybody in NYC know that cops are going to produce more shit that they have a quota to fill. The worst part is that if few years back parking on hydrant cost like $25-35, now its well over 100; when cops get on highly trafficed areas and pull cars in batches of 3-5 and sometimes even more cars at the same time, causing more traffic during rush hours, thats just insane.
some of them acting like an assholes completely puts it out of line.

benc 06-27-2005 06:14 AM

I got a ticket a couple weeks ago for some total bs. Its just a money grab. In 5 minutes work the cop made over $100 for the county. I blame the county though.

taibo 06-27-2005 06:17 AM

i've always known them fuckers had a quota. it's fucked up though.

Cops around here don't obey the law. They speed, come up to red lights and turn their flashers on, run the red light, turn off the flashers and continue on. I see it all the time. One nearly hit me speeding around a corner (at night with his headlights off!) awhile back as I was crossing the street (walking). It's a miracle they haven't killed anyone yet. In the city 20 miles west of me one was going so fast (witnesses estimated 70MPH or so) and slammed into a woman who just getting off work at McDonalds and she flew through the air and landed under a sign congratulating her for being employee of the month :(

FrankWhite 06-27-2005 06:38 AM

i got a speeding ticket yesterdeay he saying i did 40 in 30 zone, i was going mad slow when i asked him to show me a print out of me going 40 he told me if you plea not guilting in the court he will show it to me. FUCKING ASS HOLE i hate nyc cops.

I do not think that anyone in NYC is shocked about this. That is how we justify paying $600.00 a month to park your car in a 24hr valet lot.

Here, they are always talking about the budget, what are they going 2 cut. last year they hired a shit pot of NEW cops for traffic enforcement.

Bought a bunch of dirt bikes with red and blue lights on'm for the new cops.

That's California for you.

FilthyRob 06-27-2005 08:16 AM

Most cities have quotas to meet as far as tickets go.

I was severely burned in a house fire in washington d.c. A fire that took extra time to extinguish because some moron parked in front of the fire hydrant. 2 children were killed in that fire. Those childrens parents would pay everyone's 100$ ticket for life if they could have their children back..

People who park in front of a hydrant should have their license revoked for LIFE, and be tossed in a smokey room for a few hours to see how they like it.

*no offense to you personally , but there is a bigger picture"

As far as quotas, they are stupid and only encourage police to write invalid tickets..

vas 06-27-2005 09:37 AM

notice how at the end of the month, you see more cars pulled over and more cops on the streets with radars.. fucking cops trying to meet their monthly quotas.. damn bitches :321GFY

Do they still have the cameras in nyc that take a pic of your license plate if you run a red light so they can mail you a ticket?

In canada they have helicopters or cessna's to enforce speed.

They paint white lines on the road and time how long it takes for you to go from one line to the next line.

* they also have photo-radar

What was that NWA song again?

Matt 26z 06-27-2005 12:41 PM

It's nearly impossible to get a ticket from the local police in my town if you live here. People from elsewhere on the other hand almost always get a ticket.

pornguy 06-27-2005 12:45 PM

Most cities have NEVER had a quota system. And the few that did, got the shit sued out of them.

In Miami, they asked every cop to try to do one moving violation ticket a day, as part of a study. A lot of the cops did not do it, but most did. And that month they had a traffic crash drop by almost 28% and a drop in fatal crashes by 45%

I think the ticket system needs to be used more. And yes I have gotten tickets in the past. But I would rather get a ticket, than attend a funeral of a friend or loved one.

Perhaps you meant to say, "Most cities in FLORIDA", as the quota system has been ineffect atleast in Michigan for some cities, and various departments.. like State Police.

I can't speak for ALL cities in Michigan, but I do know some of them have em, same as some of the police departments.

What bothers me is when they ticket people for petty shit such as
-exhaust
-ride height
-tints
and other BS. I have a friend who got a ticket right infront of his driveway for having a "loud" exhaust on his 330.

I'm sorry about the tragedy. I never got a hydrant tiket, I would park close to hydrant in cases when I know I won't be far and long away from my car and only in cases when there is no availabe parking within 5-10blocks range.

Overall parking situation in NYC is terrible, I used to call parking violations(not just hydrants) a "luxury parking" when they used to be more affordable. I guess the meaning is more applicable to now.

PurrrsianPussyKat, yes I believe those still exist.
