Disclaimer at registerxxx.org

I just visited the site and came across the disclaimer that reads:
Guarantee
Domain Name Systems and xxxregistry.org will have several access points into the .xxx registry at general registration opening, however , there is no guarantee that we will be able to fulfill the registration request. If the registration is not available at time of registration attempt, the pre-registration funds for that domain will be credited to your credit card, or alternatively, at your discretion used as general funds in your Domain Name Systems account.

So, I pay for the domain to be pre-registered, and I sit at home relaxed thinking that it will be bought for me, but... the transaction does not go thru and someone else buys it
Or...
these people are a scam and they buy all the domains (or at least the ones that they consider to be good) that people have tried to pre-register, and then turn around and resell them to those people for 10 times the money... (I'm not saying that they are scammers, since I know nothing about this company... I'm just thinking outloud here)

Am I being paranoid or do I have a point?

BadBrad 06-26-2005 11:57 PM

Good question. I just pre-registered a few from there. If I get them cool. If not no biggie.

mrthumbs 06-27-2005 12:01 AM

its a typical scam. chances on actually getting your domain are as big as picking up google.com from the expired domain list ;)

Preregister = none for you. Do people really believe this LOL :1orglaugh

xxxregistry.org is owned by Domainnamesystems.com

They've done pre-registrations for several TLD's just like godaddy, directnic and others.
I've used them since 1997 (as many old timers have) and never had a problem.

pre-registrations there are no different than pre-registrations at any other legitimate registry.

did you get your pre reg'd names that you wanted from them in the past?

FilthyRob 06-27-2005 08:54 AM

Sounds fishy.

marzzo 06-27-2005 09:01 AM

Register.com did this with .jp years ago @ $100 a name. I had a few hundred bucks in limbo for a long time and ended up calling the BBB to get my $ back.

They are under no obligation to sell the domain from you even if you buy it. There is no such thing as "preregistration"

They simply buy them the same way you or i buy them when the market opens..

--------------
Domain Name Systems and xxxregistry.org will have several access points into the .xxx registry at general registration opening
--------------

This basically means they have a computer with internet access, because nobody knows how, where or what to have an access point to.. other than the internet..

So unless you dont have the internet or dont know how to read the time , then its useless..

When the registry opens even if they had 1000 "access points" to the registry , they will have alot more domains to buy than a regular person would..

Lets say the registry opens at 8 am september 1st. You will have a much better chance at registering a domain that a company that has to try and register 1000's of domains at once.

If you plan on being comotose on the day the registry opens , then MAYBE its better to use xxxregistry , other than that its in your own best interest to register it yourself..

Or just give the money to me, i plan on having "multiple access points" to the registry when it opens

TheSaint 06-27-2005 10:22 AM

Well, not really a scam, but as pointed out they have no better chance to get sex.xxx than anybody else sitting at their computer. I do think people are familar with registrations and have robots to prefill web forms the instant it opens will have a better chance.

Its a safe bet a few dozen people are working on this.

pornguy 06-27-2005 10:24 AM

fuck, I need one of those robots!!!!!

Well seeing as how nobody knows what the registry forms will look like its impossible to make a robot for it yet ( unless you had inside information, and that would fit into the UNETHICAL/ILLEGAL category )

SmokeyTheBear 06-27-2005 10:32 AM

What people need to do is BEFORE the registry opens, we should start a campaign to make sure that automated systems DONT get access to the registry , i.e. all registrations must be done BY HAND , giving everyone a fair chance.

Well, I haven't been following this because I am not really intrested, but won't they be sold like any other domain? If you built a robot today to bulk purchase domains from netsol or directnic, isn't that good enough to use?

Sparks 06-27-2005 11:23 AM

Sounds like a scan to me...

Gawdy 06-27-2005 11:30 AM

I can see alot of laywers getting rich from this .xxx shit

jollyperv 06-27-2005 11:32 AM

Fuck them all, and everyone who has anything to do with them. I hope they all fucking burn.

Steen2 06-27-2005 12:37 PM

You guys are a bit off...

No robot or form script can beat a direct connection to the registry. Each accredited registrar will have a direct connection to the registry. Forms and scripts will be delayed, and can never beat a direct registrar connection. This is how the current com/net drop game works, this is how pre-registrations work.

www.dotxxxregistry.com also offers the service.
