What would the adult internet look like if 9-11 never happened?
 

The subsequent "War On Terror" certainly took up resources that would have been used to rein in the Internet. How far do you think they planned (or plan) to go? Will all activity be driven out of the U.S. due to fear of prosecution?

I remember reading that just prior to 9-11 the DOJ was preparing indictments against various pornographers. Ashcroft's attention and resources got diverted. The wolf is now back at the door in the form of new AG Gonzales.

2257 and other legal crackdowns would have happened about 2 years ago instead of now.

Actually if you watched PBS Frontline series on porn. They said that Ashcroft was suppose to give a news conference about an impending major crackdown on porn. This news conference was to occur on Sept 11th or 12th. Seems he got sidetracked.

First... it is doubtful Bush would have been re-elected. He was already floundering prior to 9/11 and eventually found is place as "defender of the nation". (Tho why is anyone's guess - pretending to be agressive, constantly talking crap and never admitting an error is easy shit)

The problem which those in power as soon as they have depleting support - they will run to a range of easy targets to muster support in the population. "Attacking" CP and the porn industry is near the top of the list. The odd irony about this interest in reducing CP is that they have never instigated an action under the original 2257 - that's how of a real interest they have in this. It's all face and clutching at straws time.

Yea, agree! There was a failing in the Admin prior to 9/11 and they were getting no place with reduced polls. It would be logical to then "grab the straw" at that time and attack the porn industry to gain popularity and show how good they were at "values".
