?? That's like asking people if they like breathing.

Doc911 06-23-2005 11:28 AM

I like miso soup goes well with unagi and hamachi sashimi

Mrs. Lenny2 06-23-2005 11:36 AM

I don't care for it.

Monique Niccole 06-23-2005 11:37 AM

Its decent enough as an appetizer before the sushi, but after a few sips, I'm ready to move on to the raw fish

wdsguy 06-23-2005 11:38 AM

its very good

Sounds like you and I need to eat together. I spent nearly 1K a month on sashimi a few months ago. When I sat down with the monthly statement and saw that almost 1K went to Yamakawa I had to chill the fuck out. I couldn't believe how much I spent.

After Shock Media 06-23-2005 11:40 AM

I can do without the kelp or seaweed, but otherwise I like it.

sounds like you need to spend a few bucks and go to a real japanese restaurant where the miso is so good you want to ask for seconds. When you come to Cali I'll take you to my place.

I'm like a high roller there, they bust out all the good shit for me.

Damn you and your sushi threads Redshoe! I didn't plan on leaving the house today, but I think I may have to place an order for pick-up. :winkwink:

It's good....

High Plains Drifter 06-23-2005 11:56 AM

Miso soup and unagi are the sushi equivalent of sizzler giving you a big piece of Texas Toast to fill you up on their cheap food.

LaurieX 06-23-2005 11:59 AM

Mmmmmmm I eat it all the time. Love it!

That's why only the real sushi eaters don't eat sushi... We eat Sashimi. sushi is loaded with empty carbs. They just fill you up on the rice.

Go to a really good Sushi restaurant... well, one you think is good, and order this.

2 tuna sashimi's
2 shrimp sashimi's
2 yellow tail sashimi's
2 salmon sashimi's
1 octopus sashimi
and a bowl of ginger
and a green tea.

After you eat a piece, eat ginger and sip green tea. Take your time. Eat slow. Enjoy it.

Then when you're done, order more ginger, and 2 unagi sashimi's. Make sure you still have green tea, but don't accept another refill.

Unagi is the desert.

Eat the unagi, and in between each piece, eat the ginger. Take big bites of the ginger and sip green tea. Time it just right so that the last thing you do is eat the last unagi, and drink your last bit of green tea. Then eat one last mouthful of ginger. Tip well.

Then, do it all over again tomorrow.

Then when you come to Cali.. I'll take you to my place.

jwerd 06-23-2005 01:30 PM

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 06-23-2005 01:51 PM

I'm married to a Japanese woman (from Japan) and we eat Japanese food frequently (both at home and in restaurants).

There are hundreds of variations to miso soup, so I never get tired of it. I especially like it with broiled salmon.

Yummy...

All of these food threads are making me hungry.

Ooops, I meant the green beans that are usually served with the soup as the other filler. Eel is definately not a filler.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting out of Sacto and it has one of the best sushi places I've ever been to - Mikuni Sushi, which is right outside of town.

Ya mean the Edame or however it is spelled? The blanched and salted soy beans. I never eat them with the food myself, always thought they were sort of a bar snack, like our pretzels peanuts and stuff.

Exactly. I tried to find the spelling of it and couldn't even come close enough for google to recognize it. Those beans are like the chips and salsa at a mexican joint. And since they're all salted up, they're addictive and its easy to fill up on that shit.

RedShoe 06-23-2005 02:22 PM

Ed A Ma Me

edamame

I've always thought the perfect sushi desert was fresh orange slices with a touch of brandy. It restores the chi of my pallet.

Well... I can afford it. If you can't, that's cool too. Just tip what you can. the house may be taking in the cash but the waitresses aren't.
