Local governments can seize your home at will
I'm sure most of you know it can be done, but it's real bull shit. Talk about the land of the free... the government is free to do whatever they want.

"Local officials know how best to help cities".... riiight.
|
That's why we have a 2nd Amendment... to protect the other ones. People need to rise up to defend what is right.
|
Got to love america. Imagine having to get ride of your childhood home to make way for a mall.

Even I'm starting to hate it. |
That's fucked up...

haha how do you guys think George W. Bush was able to get a new stadium built for the Texas Rangers?
Do a search on that and Arlington, Texas...and I still can't believe so many fellow Texans voted for this dumb ass. |
"Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random," O'Connor wrote. "The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms."
That's fucked up. |

What kind of payment do you get for it?

Good news for Wal-Mart. Now they can tear down all those pesky homes and build a megamart in every town.
Wheeeeeeeeee! |

Don't they already have one for the Texas Rangers? I think they're building one for the Dallas Cowboys now. |
Sounds like communism to me, because if it's allowed with land, why not with businesses, resources, patents, copyrights, labor, etc?

Fair market value. This is happening here too in Dallas for the new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys. |

Yep. This is just the beginning. |
You might want to burn a flag as a political expression to protest this situation, but that right will be taken away from you soon as well

That's pretty fucked up.

Looks like there's only one hope left for getting this country back to the ideals it was founded on:

Just another law funded by corporate America.
Now they don't have to pay property owners more than what their home is worth. Sometimes those people hold out for a long time to get more from the developer. Now the developer just has to go crying to the local government and they get their way. |

This might actually work out OK for me, when the bastards in my area wanted more tax money they suddenly tripled the assesed value of my home. I'd be more than happy to give it to them for the amount they have been taxing me on, I certainly couldn't sell it to an individual for that :upsidedow

Maybe where you live, but "fair market value" is used here in Texas. |
i dont give a F

It's the perfect business model... find something you want to have, force the owner to sell it to you at the price you want to pay, profit. |
Hell yeah, now maybe the government will come seize all these shitty new crackerbox condos that spring up everywhere.

John Paul Stevens, Anthony Kennedy, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer all decided your land isn't your land... it's the governments. You should like it, too. |
Only thing I can gather from the lack of interest is... most of the dopes here don't "own" any property...
|

:1orglaugh Probably so. |
You can think BUSh for 95% of the shit going on in this country right now.
