(more 2257 bullshit) Maybe someone should raise the point about economics

Of how many jobs would be lost if the online porn industry suddenly vanished, especially in this economy, i know for the bush/war economists it doesnt matter as long as they're sitting on oil money, but for people who make their living honestly as smut peddlers it makes a big deal. It is kind of like that MPAA commercial they used to play in the theater before movies.

2257 doesnt just hurt the producers.

It hurts the affiliates.
it hurts the sponsors
it hurts the models
it hurts the hosts
it hurts the system administrators
it hurts the designers
it hurts the people who put on the trade shows
it hurts the content people
it hurts the SEO people
it hurts the GFY sig whores
It hurts the TGP people
and finally it hurts the customers.

if the DOJ starts enforcing these laws and treating online porn purveyors like coke dealers then it will have a real effect on our economy.

I mean, i realize there isnt really any way to just "Go on CNN" and be like.. here is "[the online[offline] porn industry's side of this story" but really if there was some way to calculate how many jobs will really be effected by this it would probably be astronomical.

Perhaps my estimates are inflated, but thats kind of how i see it.

they don't care about us

theking 06-22-2005 07:57 PM

It would affect the nations ecomomy about as much as the period at the end of this statement.

JD 06-22-2005 07:58 PM

I don't think that they see:

it hurts the affiliates.
it hurts the sponsors
it hurts the models
it hurts the hosts
it hurts the system administrators
it hurts the designers
it hurts the people who put on the trade shows
it hurts the content people
it hurts the SEO people
it hurts the GFY sig whores
It hurts the TGP people

as jobs. You think they actually understand the connection with all of that? :1orglaugh doubtful

badmrfrosty 06-22-2005 07:58 PM

Well, its not just us they're hurting.. its themselves. How much money do we dump into this economy? if "we" suddenly have to start looking for jobs doing something else. It is going to effect all facets of our economy.

Sure it will hurt many businesses - they still have real world rents and staff to pay. But.. if this 2257 and the other pressures start (this is only the beginning!), it will be the US that may probably suffer most, cos others basically don't give a damn about record keeping for dirty pics.

It may end up a scenario where US-based adult businesses will move to countries with more favorable laws. An operational base can be moved in a week in many instances.

The action of the current US Admin is not unusal.. this shit goes on in swings and roundabouts in several countries at some time or other. It usually is instigated when they is nothing else to grasp of any relevance for the "management" to gain some support - porn is an easy target - and Bush sure needs support.

You seem to forget that if they put you in jail they will most likely end up with all your money anyhow. :1orglaugh

(sound effect: news teletype machine) News item: Office of Budget and Management issues report that says job losses in the Adult Entertainment Industry resulting from Department of Justice enforcement efforts related to 18 USC 2257 has caused a skyrocketing effect in the number of first time jobless claims this week. US Department of Labor statistics indicate this rise in jobless claims sets a new precedence in the number of claims received in a single week, now reportedly topping the 1,000,000 mark. A spokesperson from the White House, who requested anonymity, said, "We really didn't see this coming. It's hurt our credibility and it's wiped out all of the gains we have made over the past 5 years in job increases, which was a major factor in the 2004 Presidential elections."

I wouldn't be so sure on that one...

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the 22nd amendment to the Constitution. :(
