How 2257 will effect GFY tommorow ?

I donno if that question already been covered yet ?

but since GFY is managed by a respectable US entreprise....Will they remove all explicit content from the forum ? ( and im pretty sure there's ton of it ;)

from my opinion 2257 covers what people post on GFY since , like tgp , they are a puplisher ....your thought ?

newbreed 06-22-2005 07:05 AM

There will not be any effect on GFY.

fris 06-22-2005 07:06 AM

Lace 06-22-2005 07:13 AM

tks for the opinion :) but does someone can tell me why there won't be any effect on GFY ? please explain why they don't have to be compliant ...i guess it could help a lot of people to understand 2257 regulation

Guitar Riff 06-22-2005 07:25 AM

Trax Maybe you should do some more checking GFY has moderators therfore it is not covered under the same policies as google or the other exempt sites. been to a lawyer already and I asked this question. They have control of what is posted so therfore thyey are goverened by the law.

Sucks for all the look at this hot pic posters and sig whores cause alot of sig files will be bye bye now

but now who is responsable for the content displayed on gfy lol good question ;)

anyway im pretty sure nothing will happen tommorow but you know , with all the threads i have seen on this board regarding 2257 , a thought the question was good to ask

cheers

GFY wont be affected because the images are hosted on the members servers not on gfy's servers

chemicaleyes 06-22-2005 08:11 AM

do a search, the question has been asked and answered time and time again :glugglug

directfiesta 06-22-2005 08:14 AM

Show me where it is written, partaining to 2257.

In my understanding, it's not about who host the image, it's about who owns the domain which publishes the images. Given the general understanding of this part of the new 2257, I also wonder what is GFY's strategy on this and why they did not release a statement on it.

exaclty ! I mean I don't even see the mention : 18 U.S.C 2257 Record-Keeping Requirements Compliance Statement on GFY

well I guess GFY already cover that point with their lawyers...these guys should have top lawyers to protect their biz :winkwink:

GFY won't be affected as far as members are concerned but your reason is wrong, otherwise everyone would get around 2257 by hotlinking from sponsors.

2257 will definitely pertain to banners and images placed by GFY administration themselves.

Read my post again.

The forum part of GFY (that is, the posts by members) will not fall under 2257 because of the clause exempting forums and search engines. Google is exempt but they would not be if they started having explicit images in their ad area.

GFY would not be liable for an explicit picture posted by a member in the forum area, but a hardcore banner at the top of the page they would be liable for.
