Do you believe in "signs"?

Like when you are in the proccess of doing something and something happens that prevents another fucked up thing from happening?

Or like when you are at a low point, ready to say fuck it all, and wham, something happens to pick you up?

Or how about when a black cat crosses your path?

I got a lil story for ya... When I was younger my father and I was going fishin somewhere in jersey... As we turned a corner a black cat crossed our path... 30 seconds later some drunk asshole blew a stop sign and tboned us....

So what about you?

Spunky 06-21-2005 08:27 PM

Nothing really out of the ordinary has ever happened to me..maybe just lucky I guess

Do you believe in "signs"?

yes -- absolutely -- 100% -- :winkwink:

but, i gotta tell ya, this black cat shit (no disrespect to your story -- i'm sure it happened as you described) -- but to fixate on a short list of "traditional symbols" -- cats, ladders, mirrors, etc -- is a bad idea. i think it gives people a false sense of security -- like: "well, if i keep my eyes open for... [looks at the list in his notebook, mutters items to himself] ...i should be FINE." it doesn't work that way -- i think it's better to keep your eyes WIDE open for ANYTHING -- (even if it means you have a little more anxiety in your life) -- than to be on the lookout for just a coupla things -- in the worst of cases, you don't see the 747 that's coming towards your house, and in the mildest occasions, you miss some cool shit that happens in the universe -- :2 cents: -- :pimp

And the sign said
long haired freaky people
need not apply.

So I tucked my hair up under my hat
and I went in to ask him why.
He said,"You look like a fine upstanding young man,
I think you'll do."
And so I took off my hat and said
"Imagine that, hah, me, working for you."

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery
breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that,
can't you read the sign?

And the sign said
anybody caught trespassing
will be shot on sight.
So I jumped the fence
and I yelled to the house,
"HEY! What gives you the right?
To put up a fence to keep me out
or to keep Mother Nature in?
If God was here, He'd tell it to your face
Man, you're some kinda sinner."

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign,
Blocking out the scenery
breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that,
can't you read the sign?

Oh, say now Mister, can't you read?
You've got to have a shirt and tie
to get a seat.
You can't watch, no you can't eat,
You ain't supposed to be here....

And the sign says you've got to have a membership card to get inside.

The sign says
Everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray
But then they passed a plate at the end of the aisle
and I didn't have a penny to pay.
So I got me a pen and a paper
and I made up my own little sign
It said, "Thank You Lord for thinking about me,
I'm alive and doing fine."

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery,
breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that
can't you read the sign?

Signs make you stop and think.....

What are the odds that something is gonna happen....

And, what can I do to be sure my ass is covered.

Great Song Tala!!! Good meeting you at SD last week...

i don't believe in signs, but i do believe that shit has a tendency of working itself out, and many of the times that it does, it happens in ways that are just out of the ordinary.

That is just regression toward the mean.

Digibucks 06-22-2005 05:34 AM

Many people believe that superstitions were created to simply teach a lesson, like the old superstition that "the girl that takes the last cookie will be an old maid" was made to teach little girls manners.

LittleSassy 06-22-2005 07:34 AM

im not superstitious but sometimes i do ask for some signs...:)

cashengine 06-22-2005 08:57 AM

time, chance, and circumstance account for everything, coincidences are not signs. if there is some force who created everything and intervenes in our lives, he is doing a bad job of management.

Hell House Vic 06-22-2005 09:22 AM

you know that black cat t-bone accident story at the top of this thread? OK, but how many times did a black cat cross your path and NOTHING bad happened? Or how many times did something bad happen without any cat involved at all?
