The next big thing - this is better than MySpace

This is one of my friends new ventures, it's an instant messenger that uses location to find people near you. The Chicago Sun Times just did an article on it yesterday and interviewed my friend Paul, check it out and download it. It kicks ass.

LittleSassy 06-21-2005 09:48 AM

pretty cool....:pimp

Dax 06-21-2005 09:52 AM

Gay ass name... but interesting idea..

wallst 06-21-2005 09:54 AM

outstanding idea. to be honest, that kind of stuff scares the shit out of me. GPS in the wrong hands can be dangerous. something about the ability to be able to find a persons exact location at any time is very frightening indeed.

Shoehorn! 06-21-2005 09:54 AM

By the way, the url to the site is www.meetro.com.

Harmon 06-21-2005 09:55 AM

I just downloaded it`... no confirmation email to get the thing going and no where to have it resent. Tell your buddy to fix his shit :winkwink:

FilthyRob 06-21-2005 09:55 AM

kick ass!

If you used a free service like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc., be patient. :)

Paul makes games for mobile phones, so expect a Meetro for mobile phones before too long in this country.

Nismo 06-21-2005 10:25 AM

Well, since it's new, theres just a few people on it. And, those people are talking to me like im their new best friend.

Other than that, this is a pretty cool piece of software.

tony_xtv 06-21-2005 11:23 AM

Kenny B! 06-21-2005 11:27 AM

Not sure, I'll ask him. I know they're working on the search feature and I told him to add one of those things like on ICQ where you know when the other person is typing.

beemk 06-21-2005 12:10 PM

im on there, thats an awesome idea, we'll see if he can market it right though.

Jace 06-21-2005 12:27 PM

tell him to get involved with trillian, would love to have that as an option in trillian

WiredGuy 06-21-2005 12:32 PM

Cool idea, seems like a great candidate for acquisition by a major social network.

Jace 06-21-2005 12:34 PM

Just sent him that. :thumbsup

Juilan 06-21-2005 12:58 PM

Double the Trillian integration suggestion and add a proximity indicator so if your in a hotspot or airport you can find someone really close to you.

The mileage thing works with wifi, say you're at a Starbucks in L.A., and someone is in the Starbucks across the street, it'll say how far away you are. At least when he explained it to me thats what I gathered. :2 cents:

beemk 06-22-2005 01:01 AM

i think its cool to use but kinda lame for at the airport and stuff. i mean if they're that close to you why not just walk through the airport and you will see them.

BRISK 06-22-2005 02:58 AM

What happens if you're not using a WIFI hotspot?

a1ka1ine 06-22-2005 04:20 AM

just signed up! although i have never used a wifi hotspot, there arent too many here :(

xclusive 06-22-2005 04:29 AM

very interesting concept

it still shows "random people" which is only around 20 people that are online with the program at a time. they have a part where you fill in a zip code and stuff. they should have it locate people close to your zip code or address you fill out if you arent connected to wifi.
