Help! Domain stolen

My top domain was stolen, some hater in my board got my godaddy password and moved the domain to another account. I know stuff like that happened to some of you guys in the past, what's the best way to act? Of course I already emailed godady, I'm waiting for a reply.

Please :helpme

kaktuz 06-21-2005 05:19 AM

nothing you can do BUT maybe if u have your order recits for this domain it will help? just an idea, cant really think of something smarter

PlugRush Sascha 06-21-2005 05:22 AM

They may track IPs on GoDaddy so they can trace it back to the person that logged into your account without permission? I don't know, but that's the only possible way you could 'prove' that it wasn't you who made the change and that someone hacked your account.

RedShoe 06-21-2005 05:25 AM

The best way to act?
Interesting question.

I'd either act like Rainman, "Yeah someone stole my domain, my domain is stolen, definitely stolen. Yeah, definitely stolen."

Or maybe like Tony Montana, "Say hello to my little friend" And kill them.

Maybe like the Taxi Driver, "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Well I'm the only one here." then I'd shave my head and go shoot 'em up.

Or maybe like Hicks, "Game over man!! GAME OVER!!!"

That's a pretty fun question... "What's the best way to act?"
I like this post.

Actually it was Hudson, not Hicks. :upsidedow

Tuga 06-21-2005 05:31 AM

He's using a fake whois, a free email, and a geocities page. This was done just to fuck me, not for profit.

Code_Havoc 06-21-2005 05:33 AM

Can also try contacting geocities then and telling them the person using that page stole your account, and if GoDaddy confirms it stolen, they may have the IP of the person who created that geocities account.

crockett 06-21-2005 05:35 AM

Report him to icann on the fake whois info and also pressure godaddy.. However godaddy isn't very friendly when it comes to adult names and disputes.

Tuga 06-21-2005 05:38 AM

This guy is good and I dont believe he was using is real ip, I'm going to try calling godaddy now.

pradaboy 06-21-2005 05:38 AM

as far as I know GD sucks in situations like this, if it's your top domain and it's actually worth a few K I recommend keeping it at Moniker.com

That's why you should:

- keep your domains private
- try not to have enemies

:glugglug

sucks for you though, good luck

budz 06-21-2005 05:42 AM

you could always watch the godaddy superbowl commercial

http://www.youre.nu/?media=Go-Daddy-...owl-Ad&cat=wmv

that helps me whenever I have a problem

and do a registrar lock on your domains in the future?

Tuga 06-21-2005 06:21 AM

It was locked of course. I think he got my password, I'm not sure how he made the changes without a warning email, I'm on the phone with them now.

XX_RydeR 06-21-2005 06:24 AM

guess he has eh..
good luck.

Violetta 06-21-2005 06:30 AM

Stolen domain? Now that is crazy!

Registrar lock wouldn't matter if they have your password though, just one extra click for the person in your account. :Oh crap

What was the domain name anyways?

wjxxx 06-21-2005 06:37 AM

GoDaddy is worst registrar on the net. Every time I reading about stolen domains the registrar is GoDaddy

Trax 06-21-2005 06:39 AM

i would never keep a valueable domain at godaddy
how stupid does one have to be to keep a good domain there knowing about their reputation

Tuga 06-21-2005 07:41 AM

Someone got my pass, changed the email, moved the domain, changed back the email. They can see this happened, they talked to me and know I'm the real owner and never changed anything. But they cant do anything unless WIPO tells them to do it.

Yes I lost it, I registered another domain and I'll be moving the forum and mailling the members. That's all I can do for now. And it's obvious that I didnt request the move, but they wont do nothing. It now belongs to another godaddy (fake) customer.

I've just tried it myself in my account, seems as if they're not sending any confirmation/info email out when you're changing the contact email. :helpme

polish_aristocrat 06-21-2005 09:01 AM

maybe ask a hacker to get it back

Tuga 06-21-2005 09:39 AM

Exactly.

They told me to contact WIPO and they should decide the domain belongs to me. Now I'm finding out I have to pay to do that:
http://arbiter.wipo.int/domains/fees/index.html

This is so fucked up, if I prove the whois is fake they will shut down the domain, but they wont give it back to me. They know the changes were made to my account, they know I didnt do it, and they do nothing about it.

Maybe you could re-register the domain again after it dropped due to your fake whois info complaint, but that could take up to a few months :(

Yea like yahoo is really going to give that IP up :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Tuga 06-21-2005 10:13 AM

This is no newbie, I will ask for his ip on every track I can find, but I dont believe he left his real ip anywhere.

Barefootsies 06-21-2005 10:23 AM

Solution?

-FedEx a "package".
-Buy a plane ticket.
-Problem solved.

Tuga 06-21-2005 01:39 PM

That is fucked. I am going to transfer all my domains registered at GoDaddy to another Registrar. Thanks for the info.

That's good. I'm happy for you. It appears that is the only way you could have gotten it back in a timely matter. Hopefully it didn't cost too much.

V_RocKs 06-21-2005 03:08 PM

Use good passwords.. don't use the same pass for your admin account to your hackable board software as you do with Godaddy.
