"It's really critical we get John Bolton confirmed,'' Kyl of Arizona, chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, said in an interview. "If we can't get him confirmed, my guess is he'll be appointed with a recess appointment.''

"They put partisanship ahead of the Constitution and the Senate's right to receive information from the executive branch of government," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday of the Bush administration. "Unless the president comes forward with information which we're certain we're constitutionally entitled to, Bolton will not get enough votes" to end debate on his nomination and move to a decisive vote, Reid said.

Bush has on occasion issued recess appointments to sidestep Senate opposition to his nominees. He could do so for Bolton during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday recess or during Congress' monthlong August break. A recess appointment for Bolton would allow him to serve as ambassador through January 2007.

Democrats say no vote should be held until the Bush administration releases classified information involving Bolton that they sought weeks ago.

Democrats refused to end debate on the nomination last month after the White House wouldn't release information on Bolton's receipt of names that had been censored in intelligence reports. Democrats want to learn whether Bolton used this intelligence to intimidate officials who disagreed with his views.
They don't even have enough Republican senators that agree with pushing Bolton through. Why not just send the Senate home for the rest of the Bush term if their decisions mean nothing and all not the will of Bush is overridden? The only thing important in the world is Iraq anyway. :disgust

democrats want to keep undercutting him, they'll pay in the next elections.
