If this shit works it will revolutionize interplanetary travel. This mission you can watch as it occurs via the web. Big difference from when we were kids watching the Apollo launches.

damn I didn't know they were that close to doing it.. I saw a show on discovery talking about it.. Was a Show about the Star Wars movies technology in the real world.

"To save money, the Planetary Society will launch Cosmos 1 on a modified Russian ballistic missile, fired from a submarine in the Barents Sea. Friedman said the society got "a good deal" on the arrangement because Russia wants to find commercial uses for the missiles rather than destroying them."

At least they are putting the ICBMs to good use. Maybe that way we can get out of earth before we destroy it. And then get started on destroying whole new worlds...
