---- http://gallup.com/poll/content/login.aspx?ci=16915 June 16, 2005 Three in Four Americans Believe in Paranormal Little change from similar results in 2001 by David W. Moore A recent Gallup survey shows that just about three in four Americans hold some paranormal belief -- in at least one of the following: extra sensory perception (ESP), haunted houses, ghosts, mental telepathy, clairvoyance, astrology, communicating with the dead, witches, reincarnation, and channeling. There are no significant differences in belief by age, gender, education, or region of the country. |

so it's tapering off.. |
and for the "stupid" angle:
"Finally, a 1989 CBS television poll done in conjunction with 48 hours uncovered that 75% of persons with a college degree believed in paranormal phenomena, while only 36% of people with less than a high school degree believed in these phenomena. In short, as education increased, so did belief." |
