I know what 89.com is, but I doubt it's the 10th most searched for term.

Scootermuze 06-17-2005 04:43 PM

Hmm... wonder why there'd be that many searches for google?

That can't be real.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 06-17-2005 04:48 PM

Makes perfect sense to me.

Za Ha 06-17-2005 05:02 PM

Yup, 89 is a pretty big fuckin site.

fireorange 06-17-2005 05:06 PM

If you ran a site with any real signifcant traffic you'd know you get a lot of Google & MSN traffic from search queries such as "www. your domain .com" or yourdomain.com"

Hopefully one day you'll stop submitting sponsor FHG galleries to the Hun and run your own sites :1orglaugh

xlogger 06-17-2005 05:08 PM

Some/Most surfers, even though they know the sites url, they just type in into google. Just look at you're sites statistic. You will see that many of you're bookmarked visitors just put you're site name directly in to google.

I've been talking over about this with a budy, we came to conclusion that most users have some kind of search page set as their homepage (MSN, AOL, Yahoo, etc), many of these people might percieve search field as an address bar, so they type the domain or part of it into the search field and get to the site through the search engine results.

Yup, exactly. :thumbsup They just type in the sites they know into google and others. If you look at you're sites stats, look under "search engin terms" you will see you're domain some were on the top.

Spot on, also, doesn't IE by default search for non-resolving URLs in MSN search with those friendly error messages?

Matt 26z 06-17-2005 05:38 PM

I'm not buying the accuracy of that list.

You can't tell me a search for "89.com" is more popular than "naked women" or "boobs" or whatever else.

Drake 06-17-2005 05:40 PM

that site is huge... I know it's been around forever but how did it get so big?

shermo 06-17-2005 05:42 PM

I wouldn't doubt it. 89.com pushes some serious numbers.

xApster 06-17-2005 05:45 PM

He buys a ton of SE traffic ...

Machete_ 06-17-2005 05:48 PM

bullshit - that is NOT real, and if you belive that you must be a surfer

warlock5 06-17-2005 06:33 PM

Overture gives it 1,339,605; so, no

As xApster says, he buys a lot of AdWords traffic, don't know about ROI he gets but the bookmarkers must be great with that.

89.com in front of word like ' sex ' ....mmmm :disgust

Trax 06-18-2005 10:25 AM

look at the traffic he is getting before making smart comments
do you even have a little clue how much traffic an alexa rank of 240 reflects.

I remember a few years back, everything adult you searched for on google 89.com was in the top 3 always of adwords, and one of the top two sponsored links. They spent alot of money but I am sure they made alot!

DarkJedi 06-18-2005 10:30 AM

89.com got great traffic.

I have some sites listed there (they picked it up from dmoz back in the day)

Doctor Dre 06-18-2005 10:30 AM

For this search engine probably ... look at ouverture.com you'll get different stats . This guy probably has a lot of adult traffic or something like that :)

Lots of people type yourdomain.com in search engines cauz they are too dumb to use the adress bar ... hell with firefox I even do it once in a while when I make a mistake

The cursor is positioned in the search field, not the address bar, on the MSN.Com homepage.

All search engines do this when you set them as your homepage.

idiots

Just because it gets lots of traffic doesn't mean its the #10 most searched for keyword on all the search engines.

GatorB 06-18-2005 10:52 AM

Well using the Google Adwords traffic estimator( yes I know it's often way off ) 89.com can be expected to get 83 hits a day at the #1 posistion. So that about 2500 a month which is really probally half that. On the other hand a top adwords ad is less likely to get clicks than a top spot on the regular search results. And of course that's clicks and not everyone clicks an ad or search result. So who knows how many actual searches for 89.com there are. I'd estimate at least 25,000 - 100,000 a month on Google.

What puzzles me is why anyone would SEARCH for 89.com and not just type in http://89.com ?

You're right. Just cause yahoo is the #1 site doesn't mean it gets searches. I mean it is a search engine who would type that!

11215605 yahoo.com

It's because people type it in instead of address bar. Shut up, see sig.

Ok one last time to make is simple for people. If you are using IE go to the address bar and type without http://www

gofuckyourself.com

You'll notice under the adress bar it says SEARCH FOR gofuckyourself.com. It's just people being lazy and not typing http: in front of every domain. Search engines automatically forward you to domain names that are searched for that way but show you results for non domain names. MYSTERY SOLVED.

Equally stupid. If you know what sites name why SEARCH for it? I know surfers are stupid, but I didn't think they were THAT stupid.

Yes and even if you are right how would that show up on overture? How would overture know that I searched for a word or not? When I search for anythig I use google.

I make some nice money from domainname.com searches :)

if you got no clue what you're talking about you'd all better shut up and not make smart assumptions :)

MetaMan 06-18-2005 11:38 AM

Yep, also he's listed as #1 for 'free porn' on Google.co.uk with AdWords atm and #2 for 'porn' above Penisbot.
