Google's Site Ranking Secrets
Posted by samzenpus on Thursday June 16, @08:04AM from the more-google dept. vivin writes "Ever wonder how Google's site ranking works? Wonder no more. Google recently filed United States Patent Application 20050071741 on March 31, 2005. This patent reveals a great deal of information about Google's site ranking algorithm and makes very good reading. For example, one of the criteria that they use is the number of years that your site has been registered. If your site has been registered for less than a year, then it counts against you. A site registered for a longer period of time means that the owner is probably serious about the site, and the site is probably legitimate. Google's Site Ranking algorithms reveal how hard they are making it for spam sites to get listed (on Google). This information will also make it easier for you to make sure that you get listed well in Google." http://slashdot.org/articles/05/06/1...tid=217&tid=95 |
Timeline here?
There's nothing new, Google's patent has been the topic of thousands of threads since it was released to the public. Reading it won't help your SEO efforts much - it sheds very little light on their actual algo. |

Although there isn't anything signficantly new, it does now put some definitive answers to what a lot of SEO's thought was true.

I read that, there was a good point made in the thread.
Google has alot of patents, just because it's patented does mean its implemented. |

Slashdot is great for tech news; anything about business and it fucking blows -- half the posters are unemployed programmers pissed at everyone, 25% are linux nerds, and another 25% are actual people who accomplish things, like John Carmack.
As for that patent, SEOs have been debating it for some time. Its questionable whether or not they've implemented any of that. |
Slashdot is a hardcore geek's way of becoming famous (or infamous). They spill their guts on any and all interesting info they know; then regret it later when everyone actually utilizes the information posted.

I invented search.
