First Solid Proof Of String Theory

I was bored, so I was googling around a bit and found this:

I love this kind of stuff...Hopefully in our lifetime they will build a microscope that's powerful enough to see these things.

i hope they dont exist,i dont want to get cud down by one :Oh crap

SmokeyTheBear 06-15-2005 11:35 PM

You mean a TELESCOPE?

"strings" exist on a subatomic level. a telescope would do you no good and no 'microscope' can see at that level. just observing something on the subatomic scale changes what you're 'looking at'. the laws of known physics and reality break down at that point

kernelpanic 06-15-2005 11:46 PM

Saw this earlier today, good stuff :thumbsup

The realisation that big strings are possible has come from exploring the most esoteric implications of the theory. For instance, the only way strings can vibrate in enough different ways to mimic all the known fundamental particles is if the strings vibrate in a space-time of 10 dimensions.

Boy they are behind. It's 11 dimensions not 10. They had a show on this topic on the Science Channel last week.

i just saw that shit last week too, great show. the concept of a membrane universe is mind blowing.

Yeah membrane that's the word I was lookng for. I had forgot what they called it. Ok so I'm not the only geek up at 3 AM watching the Science Channel. I can accept the concept of 11 dimensions and membrane universes more than I can accept the concept of God.

cool. i've only read Fabric. it was incredible. but there's still so much we don't know. i wonder if it's even possible for us to ever understand this stuff.

Well let me know when they can obtain a petri dish of "string"

That's proof? Sounds more like "swamp gas"...

That show you claimed to have watched on the science channel must have went right over your head. Somebody wasn't paying attention.

geeksta 06-16-2005 01:57 AM

never have the lab setting required to look at strings, yeah, the larger ones out in space are the best hope we have for some observational evidence. :thumbsup
