Do you think you are under a microscope when you post?

Do you stop to consider your posts or what you say to a response on GFY?

I guess this would be directed more to affiliate reps.... do you hold back or not be yourself because you don't want to piss people off and have them shy away from promoting the program you work for?

I sometimes stop before I post, but for the most part I will say what is on my mind. There are times where I will hold back for whatever reason.

BIGTYMER 06-15-2005 09:14 PM

No. Because I don't post crap.

fris 06-15-2005 09:14 PM

i guess if you are working for someone, you would want to watch what you say to make that company look good.

same goes for going to a show, if you were to cause a scene putting the company in a bad position, it wouldnt look good.

cyber_ninja 06-15-2005 09:15 PM

nope,because i only post crap

IMO it's not about posting crap.... you are missing my point.... in my example... if you were an affiliate rep... you would try to make everyone happy... but how much of you is suppressed in doing so?

Someone may post something that you are livid about but you have to bite your tongue so you don't piss off 50 other people....

see where I'm getting at?

Sly 06-15-2005 09:19 PM

A little bit, but not really. This is how/who I am.

sonofsam 06-15-2005 09:21 PM

nofx actually has a staff of PR people he advises before he makes posts

as for myself, nope.... who cares... being honest and blunt is the way it should be

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 06-15-2005 09:22 PM

Be smart and make no "Official" rep tie to a givin program.
GIves you flexibility to bob weeve and mobilise involved parties to do various things.

Take it from me...
I rep alot of people but do not tie myself to any single one for there own good and my own good.
Its served very well over the years.

Official Account Reps for affilaites programs have no business on boards.
Account Rep's interface with webmasters within the affiliates program.
Real webmasters with real questions goto the program in question and not deal with Webmaster Politics.

AN account rep should not deal with boards and flame out people that come crying to boards, regarding any issues.

Those sort of things become company issues not REP issues.

If they take responses made on a BBS so seriously..they are the ones with the problem

Babagirls 06-15-2005 09:28 PM

to a degree yes. i was raised with that "think before you speak" mentality.

pornguy 06-15-2005 09:29 PM

I dont talk shit, but I have felt that way once or twice. I dont have the time to check for spelling all the time, and people have given me shit about it.

xlogger 06-15-2005 09:32 PM

Look, i just posted some crap. Sup?

Spunky... you would know as well as anyone that spends alot of time here that what is said on GFY can have an effect on your business. This is the place where you can find out what is going on in the industry first. You can't underestimate the power this board has and the responses given.

xlogger 06-15-2005 09:36 PM

If i was working for a aff program or owned one. Trust me, i would watch every single word i type.

fuck spelling.... I read what they are saying... not how they spell it. Spelling isn't one of my strong suits but I try to be correct. If someone is more concerned about my spelling than what I have to say.... that says alot about them and their response and what I have to think about it considering all they could reply with is I wouldn't win a spelling bee contest...

Sure, all depends on what it is really. If you scammed someone.GFY knows about it and judges accordinly..if it is some lame ass drama fucking around bullshit ,most people are intelligent enough to read between the lines and if they judge you by that..fuck em.Many people have the mob mentality and jump on any band wagon in order of sig views.

taibo 06-15-2005 09:41 PM

fuck what others think

Matt_WildCash 06-15-2005 09:50 PM

All businessmen on here / reps or program owners hold back. There are so many boardwhores who just want to cause drama over ANYTHING! you have to tippy toe around.

I agree, spelling is overrated when your posting lots on different boards and typing fast you dont have time to reread every post. They get the idea anyways, its not a letter its a fast moving chat board

NTSS 06-15-2005 09:55 PM

I speak exactly what's on my mind...period!

Furious_Female 06-15-2005 10:00 PM

Yeah, I'd say some GFY posts are a little too politically correct in an industry that is so lax. Business is business though and despite the drama, humor, and/or nonsensical posts... a LOT of business goes on via this board.

same goes for anything, politics is politics, and half of this business is politics. You rub the worng person the wrong way, your "Easy Street" just took a turn uphill...

If you are representing a company, and you look like an ass, you lose money along with the company.

Of course people have to watch what they say.

r3ap3r 06-15-2005 10:07 PM

Doesn't matter to me. Just think before you post.

Maybe we don't read the same board, but my impression is that - with some honorable exceptions - many of the most aggressive and childish posts are from people (or rather, so we are supposed to believe, from their board personas), who are promoting something. Admittedly I never paid any attention as to whether they are working for themselves or someone else.

I only hold back to the extent that I know when I start typing that I am likely wasting my time. But when I do write, I say exactly what I think. It's natural for me to only rarely use bad language and I'm not often overtly rude to anyone, so I don't have to think about how I write.

There are plenty of ways to make money, in and out of this business. So I really don't think about the consequences of possibly offending someone. Truth be told, I'm not likely to do any business anyway with those I'm at risk of offending, so the issue doesn't really arise.

I try not to post any insults to people who like me, even if I think they are idiots.

WarChild 06-16-2005 02:26 AM

I *mostly* post what I'm thinking, for better of for worse. Sometimes, I temper it with a little bit of time sometimes because I often think mean things. Other times, what I'm thinking is so down right mean, I just don't say anything at all. :helpme
