My Sexy, Sexy New Song

ok, now that I've got your attention, :winkwink: here's a GFY sneak preview of my band's latest song, "Real Bad Thing"

This track has a sexy feel with risque lyrics, but at the same time is dark, haunting and tightly wound; slowly building from moody atmospherics to an aggressive chorus and outro section...

Weighing in at just over 6 minutes, it's a bit of a beast but I think keeps the listener thoroughly engaged throughout...

Hope you like it :pimp :thumbsup

Thanks so much :thumbsup

We have more mainstream tracks, too - this one may be too experimental for radio ? (then again, if SOAD get airplay you never know :winkwink:)

Here's the full song lyrics, for those who are interested:

REAL BAD THING

That Girl got a taste of the Real Bad Thing, never forget about it?
She said, she said, she said ?I need more now?

Rivulets of sweat, stream from her brow to my neck; she is intoxicating
Evolving into your unspoken fantasy?

That Girl got a taste of the Real Bad Thing, never forget about it?
She said, she said, she said ?Take me home now?

(Bridge)
She comes on like a dream, an angel decked out in sin;
Slithers like a swollen reptile;
Seeking sensation, but this is no dream, she comes to me?

(Chorus)
You?re taking it off as you melt into me;
We shut the whole world out, you give me everything?
These secrets we hide, when you?re away from him;
I swear I?ll never tell a soul, ?cuz you?re my favorite sin.
I swear I?ll never tell a soul?

Some say she started out as an innocent child, Lost in the wild of the world;
Then her heart and her body unfurled, revealing an intimate glimpse of Heaven?

That Girl got a taste of the Real Bad Thing, never forget about it?
She said, she said, she said ?Take me home now?

(Chorus)
You?re taking it off as you melt into me;
We shut the whole world out, you give me everything?
These secrets we hide, when you?re away from him;
I swear I?ll never tell a soul, ?cuz you?re my favorite sin.
I swear I?ll never tell a soul?

(Outro 4x)
She comes on like a dream, an angel decked out in sin;
Slithers like a swollen reptile;
Seeking sensation, but this is no dream, she comes to me?

This may have been a hit back in the 1980's if you'd done it then. Pretty good for retro style, and I'm sure there's a market for that sort of thing.

The 80's sound is huge right now, from the Killers to Gwen Stefani, who are totally capitalizing on the resurgence of that decade.

BUT... I have to disagree with you that this is even an 80's song, as it takes inspiration from the best of what we like from every decade. Someone else told me today that it sounds just like NIN (which I also disagree with :winkwink: but Trent is definitely a current artist)

Yes, the verse section is inspired by In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins - we wanted that same type of vibe but we made it sound darker and more industrial. That's one of the only parts that I think you could say sounds 80s retro.

Drums throughout the song are an industrial kit AND an acoustic kit playing complimentary parts which gives it a really original and massive sound. I guess you could say the drums are more inspired by industrial 90s and current bands like NIN.

Vocals are my own style, but in this particular song in some places I emulated Jim Morrison, who was most popular in the 60s.

The guitars in some parts are inspired by Floyd (70s artist) and in others are inspired by aggro nu metal style (totally current).

Basically what I'm saying is we draw from every decade for our sound, and are not afraid to do so; which I guess is unusual in the music industry today, as most artists TRY to have a certain label applied to them, so that they can be easily classifiable by the general public.

The best bands, and some of our favorite influences, like The Mars Volta, MUSE, U2, APC, SOAD, draw influences from the entire history of music, not just the last 5 minutes. :2 cents:

Thanks, yea, both myself and the guitarist have a background in audio production, so I think it sounds pretty damn good for a home studio. :thumbsup

Thanks so much, I spend a LOT of time on my lyrics so I always like to include them for people to see the whole story behind the song. :)
