xclusive 06-13-2005 08:48 PM

wow that was quick wonder how they found out.

Tuga 06-13-2005 08:49 PM

Run for the .org and .biz !

Sly 06-13-2005 08:49 PM

There's a couple guys who do this. They have inside sources. They "tap" on to program owners and other domain buyers with branding influence, such as yourself, and find out the domains you buy so they can register variations and misspells quickly. I know of a few instances where programs have changed names of new sites to avoid these guys.

Long story short, you aren't the only one this happens to.

sonofsam 06-13-2005 08:50 PM

maybe they have a script that sees whenever

Registrant:
AP Net Marketing, Inc.

registers a domain?and then registers all other extensions?

teksonline 06-13-2005 08:51 PM

who cares

xlogger 06-13-2005 08:51 PM

Thats cool eh? If a big program owner develops .com then it is easy type ins for .net!

Lensman, why not buy both the com & net at the same time when you think it's something brandable?

emmanuelle 06-13-2005 08:56 PM

Mark Alert is your friend

xlogger 06-13-2005 08:59 PM

Lensman, do you use the same whois on all you're domain. Maybe they are spidering for that info and getting them.

eg. On you're whois it has "AP Net Marketing, Inc.". People could just spider for that on whois. That is what i think.

Alex 06-13-2005 09:00 PM

Wildwestdomains???

You would trust a domain that you plan to brand with some reseller?

xlogger 06-13-2005 09:04 PM

I think im right guys. All his domain has the same whois.

http://whois.sc/adult.com
http://whois.sc/teenhitchhikers.com
http://whois.sc/pbplustour.com
http://whois.sc/milfcruiser.com

Spider for "AP Net Marketing, Inc." on whois and it done deal.

I have noticed some company buying every expired domain that comes up.. I'm suprised thats profitable..

Has anyone else noticed this recently ?? all the expired domains are getting bought by a just a few companies.. even the crappy ones. so its not someone handpicking them its just automated buy everything.. deep pockets..

That isn't anything new. Companies have been doing that for years. It's profitable based on the volume. A domain is only $6.95 a year, if a domain can make just $1 a month it turns profit. Some domains hit hard, while others flounder.

well i realise it happened on a small scale , but on the recent expiry lists i have viewed its like 99% owned by one company whereas before it was only like 1% ..

xclusive 06-13-2005 10:24 PM

domaincontender is one of those that seem to pick up a lot of them

WiredGuy 06-13-2005 10:31 PM

If you want to keep your registrations private, avoid using your standard DNS servers until you're ready to go live. Its easy to watch new domain registrations based on DNS servers that most sponsors use.

LINKZ ? You'll notice them deleting them a few days later too without having to pay for the names, after testing to see which ones get any traffic.

You can do that?

MGPspots 06-13-2005 11:56 PM

would have thought that anyone starting a decent sized site would at least reg the .net as well as the .com.

Why didnt you register the .net etc?
:upsidedow

pornstar2pac 06-14-2005 12:03 AM

I just got eatmyblackmeat.co.uk

thanks Lens!

mkx 06-14-2005 12:08 AM

the .net's and .org's arn't worth a lot. I have a .net for an alexa 5,000 mainstream domain pulling in less than 1 unique a day. It's just good to have for brandability purposes

mkx 06-14-2005 12:09 AM

then again, i have .net's in the non mainstream industry getting hundreds of hits a day. I guess it all depends

Princess Ellisa 06-14-2005 12:19 AM

LoL they are amazing.

I had Tanker register a domain one night and he mispelled it.

The next day when he was looking he realized that he had mispelled it. We went to register the proper domain probably like 12 hours later and it had already been snapped up. :(

By coincidence I ended up speaking with someone @ Phoenix Forum who buys A LOT of domains and as we got to chatting I brought up the speed with which domain trolls had got our precious domain...

Although I don't think I called them domain trolls I think I referred to it as some Jack Ass bought the domain before we could get it ... and he replied... I think I maybe that person!

He was so very kind and gave us the domain back as he took pity on me!

How funny!

Cash 06-14-2005 12:26 AM

Nowadays domain names keywords are useless ...

sacX 06-14-2005 12:32 AM

same person got eatmyblackmeet.com too :)
