And why do you prefer it?

taibo 06-13-2005 06:27 PM

windows, for the user friendly
linux for stability

Machete_ 06-13-2005 06:29 PM

windows on pc, windows on application-servers, linux on web-servers

abadfish 06-13-2005 06:38 PM

If we are talking servers I would say Linux... if we are talking about home pc I'd say neither and choose Mac. :)

Hosting on windows is asking for trouble

tony286 06-13-2005 06:44 PM

you have to rocks in your head to have windows on server lol

sumphatpimp 06-13-2005 06:46 PM

it depends on what you want to do.

if you want a good operating system, then it is linux or one of the unix based operating systems.

if you want to take advantage of the noobs then it is windows.
windows has so many fuck ups thier is room for everyone.

:1orglaugh Linux it is then

Xeno 06-13-2005 07:05 PM

exactly...it depends on what your primary work is...

For photographic imaging, publishing, music industry....has always used the mac

For business applications....Windows has always been used because in the past, it's the most cost effective, but also, it's just where the industry went long ago instead of the mac.

For servers....I agree...linux/unix

Just incase no one has heard the latest on the Mac...I really encourage you to watch Steve Jobs Keynote address http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc05/ ....you will love this and to give you a hint, it has something to do with Intel :)

Cheers

For server? FreeBSD.

GNU/Linux is a toy, always has been and always will be since I first used it in 1993.

StickyGreen 06-13-2005 07:13 PM

windows mang...

Odin88 06-13-2005 07:14 PM

Linux for hosting sites, etc. Windows for everything else (just my opinion - mostly because I hate dealing with all the bs associated with running apps from linux).

More Booze 06-14-2005 03:14 AM

windows for my desktop.
linux on my server.

SinisterStudios 06-14-2005 03:46 AM

I currently use Windows XP on all my desktop machines. Linux for all our servers.

Was using Solaris previously, which scales way way better; but since we don't have anyone skilled enough in it anymore we have to use Linux. May change soon though.

beta-tester 06-14-2005 04:49 AM

Linux of course!

buboy 06-14-2005 05:20 AM

For Games, Windows, For Internet Linux

AcidMax 06-14-2005 05:27 AM

I agree for games it has to be windows, only because there is not much support for linux and gaming. There are few native linux games, you can use cedega but that is slow.

Otherwise I would go with linux over windows any day. I have used linux for 9mos and yesterday received my mac mini so that is what I am using now. Kills windows, don't have to worry about viruses and everything works.

Manowar 06-14-2005 05:28 AM

wjxxx 06-14-2005 06:22 AM

Kevsh 06-14-2005 06:36 AM

Linux for servers
Windows for furniture
Mac for fishbowls

Zester 06-15-2005 12:15 AM

really? don't see to many enterprise class applications on free. Not that free/open are bad, they're great. But linux has marketing share, and backing from large corporations. free, well, doesn't.

so no, gnu/linux is not a toy.
