Brutal savage crime

Well this has to go down as one of the worst crimes ever...brutal...qas quite shocked when i read it

The Economist:
"Even by the standards of war, some of the atrocities in eastern Congo are shocking. Zainabo Alfani, for example, was stopped by men in uniform on a road in Ituri last year. She and 13 other women were ordered to strip, to see if they had long vaginal lips, which the gunmen believed would have magical properties. The 13 others did not, and were killed on the spot. Zainabo did. The gunmen cut them off and then gang-raped her. Then they cooked and ate her two daughters in front of her. They also ate chunks of Zainabo's flesh. She escaped, but had contracted HIV. She told her story to the UN in February, and died in March."

This is the kind of stuff that has been going on in countries like that for years you just don't hear about it, because all govts are the same.. If there is no profit involved in it for them then there is no genocide or war crimes.

Whilst i don't doubt the ability of keen, young, promotion-seeking journalists and freelance hacks to sensationalise their work or in some (lesser quality) cases fabricate it in order to make profit or fame. Nor do i doubt the ability of teh WB or WTO to source inflamitory press in areas of interest.
I still think an article leading the economist with primary evidence from the United Nations, health care workers and a childless woman with a clearly circumsided vulva is pretty reliable.

Well, since the subject of this thread is that Economist article, and you posted that link in this thread, it seems to me like you're trying to imply something about it.

no - it was in relation to what i said before, about how it MUST be real since it was posted on the internet (and in the printed issue as well)

fraggle 06-13-2005 07:06 AM

this is a bit cryptic to say the least

"I saw it in the internet, so it must be real"
sounds like
"bullshit article"

and this...would suggest i will find enlightenment by following this link
"read this before reading anything else
