I know several people with Sidekicks. They're pretty cool. I keep trying to hack 'em, no penis pics yet.

Vagisil 06-12-2005 11:09 PM

sidekicks and blackberries are for Americans who dont know any better.... the best phone/pda on the market is easily the o2 XDA Mini II

One of my programmers just got the Trea 650 from Verizon. Its sweet!

MaxxxBeaver 06-12-2005 11:11 PM

Treo is very good...I'd suggest this brand

I have a treo, it rocks :thumbsup

The treo 650 is a good tool... not the PERFECT tool, but pretty good.

Pros:
- PalmOS, so about 283974293 available programs
- Phone sounds decent. Supports handsfree bluetooth devices.
- GSM-based internet very usable. If you're a unix nerd, a freely available program for ssh lets you have remote console on the go... add a portable keyboard and you can sling code in jamaica. :thumbsup

Cons:
- No wifi. This is major, and damn near kept me from buying. No wifi because if they added wifi, someone could use skype (or similar VoIP) to avoid carrier charges. Fuckers.
- No advanced audio bluetooth schema. Only mono, even for media playback. Don't bother buying that stereo bluetooth headset if you were planing on using your treo as an mp3 player as well.
- Battery life could be a bit better IMO, but then I use the BT headset and that adds drain.

Given what it is I use the treo for, I may have chosen differently if I knew then what I know now... particularly about the wifi thing. I can't stress how much of a pain in the ass that is when 90% of everywhere I go is hotspotted.

With my Pocket PC that has Wifi the processor isnt fast enough to really utilize the broadband. For the web surfing i say it doesnt matter at all...for ftp/file transfer...yes, i agree...should have been on board...

But there are lots of easy to use 3rd party ones that if you use a carrycase are almost not noticeable...

Looks like the Treo650 is the pda of choice right now.......

I just bought the HP HX2750 and it is awesome, wireless, bluetooth etc.
No phone though cause I have seen some huge bills $$$$ that scared me...

candyflip 06-13-2005 08:21 AM

The new Motorola MPX 300 Smartphone is nice, but a bit pricey.

I've got the 220 model and had the 200 before that. I really like the Windows Mobile OS.

imate PDA2k. Looooove mine :)

Although reviewers agree that the BlackBerry is the best value if you want both a PDA and a phone, experts also agree that the Treo 650 is the best choice if you need more memory (23MB), a higher resolution screen (320 x 320), a full QWERTY keypad and an integrated camera. In addition, the Treo comes in GSM and CDMA varieties, so you are not limited to T-Mobile service. Altogether, reviewers say the Treo comes closest to being the perfect marriage between PDA and phone.
