Anyone know of an association for people in adult online? Maybe starting one?

Well we keep saying how we all need to stick together and be more of a community and that would make us stronger. I also realize FSC is fighting this battle as much as they can for us. But what about next time? What about this .XXX crap or whatever they think of next.

I had posted earlier of a lawyer we had been talking to that felt we needed some kind of association to lobby for us all the time not just when we are fighting something like this but to get some people on our side before it's too late. My husband has been researching and talking to lawyers about getting all our stuff in order and thought he might try to set up some kind of internet adult related association. His father was president of an association in Oregon when he was growing up so he has some insight on the running and what they have to offer members. For example along with stepping up to the plate when things like the 2257 regulations come along and taking it on and having lawyers for the members to talk to and give advice. They also can help in other areas like setting up health care and insurances through the association so we actually get legit companies working with us as a whole so many more people are interested in dealing with us. But the main thing is lobbying for us and getting government officials involved in issues we need them to be involved in.
There is a whole list of benefits that would come along with something like this being set up if there isn't already that I just haven't heard of.

Please any feedback would be appreciated before he starts putting together too much more on this. With as many people in this industry it could become a very powerful voice if we actually stuck together as a group and started running like most business and industries do.

If your not sure what associations do just search yahoo or google every other type of business has some association set up so it's probably about time we did too.

Thanks.... Payton

Very good idea, and I think it's long overdue.

That being said, you'd have luck with some of the big playas in the biz, as we need more representation from a lobbying type of group, or organization to take on some of the issues.

However, you would not get a majority of the webmasters or people in the biz as you would take away from their beer money. They'd have to go back to flippin a burger to pay membership dues.

All kidding aside, I think it's a good ideas worth exploring if you have the connections, network, and time.

Its a solid idea...

Its the kinkd of idea that should be put together by a 5 to 6 person committee to establish a organizational model.. Should review other trade organizations and structure accordingly...From there try to establish a presentation and registration booth at the next Las Vegas AVN Adult Expo... :pimp

I have been screaming about this for several years.....and was one of my main contentions with the FSC. Yes, they are doing something, but they seemed to be more about California, and the California movie industry.
I spoke with them several times about this very thing; having a lobbyist.

Having been a political consultant for the commonwealth of PA for several years, I was sure the only way we would be heard in Washington was to have our own lobby group or at least "A" lobbyist. Not necessarily to get legislation passed for us, that's unlikely to happen, but to simply head some of it off. If we can hold the line on the law, we can all survive and do well. And it's much easier to "convince" legislators to NOT get on the anti-porn bandwagon, than to get them to try to repeal legislation later on that never should have made it. We should have been doing this for years.

I was told recently that the FSC was working on putting a lobbyist in Washington, but still haven't seen anything.

Well I will have my husband read over this and it appears there is some interest so he can work on figuring out what steps need taken to at least start the ball rolling and setting something like this up.

Thanks all for the input and if anyone wants to contact me with input, suggestions or any certain people we should speak with you can email me. payton20 (at) lvcm.com

Thanks.... Payton
