Tyson Quits!

Unheralded Kevin McBride stopped former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in round six Saturday night at the MCI Center in Washington DC. Tyson did not look sharp early on, missing with wide shots. Tyson tried chopping down McBride to the body in round four, however McBride trapped Tyson on the ropes in round five and did some damage. They went toe-to-toe in round six, and a desperate Tyson started getting dirty. He was deducted two points for an intentional headbutt which cut McBride over the left eye. Iron Mike was also warned for trying to break McBride's arm. At the end of the round Tyson was pushed to the canvas and struggled to get back to his corner where he quit on his stool. After the fight, Tyson said "I don't think I have it anymore....most likely I'm not going to fight anymore."

Why the hell does anyone even bother getting into the ring with that jackass in the first place?

Digipimp 06-11-2005 08:26 PM

He hasn't really wanted to fight truly for years. He's doing it to pay his bills and the money he owes. He's at that point that athletes all get to where they're body doesn't do what their mind is telling it to do.

He idenitifies himself with being the most feared and exciting boxer we've ever seen and he was. But his body can't make it happen anymore and people aren't scared of him, so it's two strikes against him going into the ring. Add in that he doesn't want to fight and it's already over before it starts.

I just hope he stays close to boxing, not in the ring, but outside it. He was always a favorite of mine and always will be. He knows a ton about boxing and the history and the fighters. I hope he's around the sport somehow. No matter how old he is and how past his prime he is, people still want Mike almost as much as ever.

washed up bum

CybermedAndy 06-11-2005 08:30 PM

Hi post-fight interview was both sad and surprisingly introspective on his part... admitting he simply didn't have it anymore.

xclusive 06-11-2005 08:31 PM

50-6, 44 knockouts should have called it quits 3 years ago

jukeboxfrank 06-11-2005 08:33 PM

sad very sad....

David - PG 06-11-2005 08:36 PM

Next thing you know he will sign with Don King again and he's back fighting lol He's so broke he needs any Dollar he can put his fingers on. Maybe we will see him in UFC or K1.

taibo 06-11-2005 08:41 PM

tyson is washed up, like i said

chaze 06-11-2005 08:42 PM

Tyson's a bitch, fuk em :321GFY

D-Money 06-11-2005 09:19 PM

No matter what Tyson does with his fighting, he'll always be considered one of the greatest of all time while in his prime.

I'd much rather see him become a reality TV star or get roles in movies as a boxer.

He doesn't have much of a choice. He already made a deal with Uncle Sam to fight a few more fights, to pay back what he owes to the IRS.

Isnt it funny how people want to get on the kick Tyson bandwagon all of a sudden. What he accomplished in his prime not too many others have :2 cents:

gxer 06-12-2005 04:37 AM

1. this Bride not "really" won
2. Tyson made his 5 mil + some nice extra to cover his debt abit
3. We will see his next fight within 5-6 months, cause nice extra from this fight wasn't enough :)
4. After too many losses , next fight Tyson will win , just for the same nice extra $$

edit: Tyson is a genius

Hinc 06-12-2005 04:40 AM

Tyson was the greatest !
I still remember all those late nights staying up with the old man to watch him knock out some poor soul...whatever happened since, he´s a boxing legend.

...but I hope this was the last comeback, nothing worse than legends returning to make fools of themselves.

Drake 06-12-2005 04:44 AM

Does the $5 million get him completely out of debt or does he owe more than that?

Muhammad Ali was old as dirt and still beating up muthafuckas...Tyson depended on nothing but speed and brute strength to win and when that faded, he lost his edge...

Ali on the other hand invented tricks like the "rope-a-dope" and other mental tricks to wear the opponent's MIND down...Tyson is a brute and doesn't use his brain along with his body. Which is why he fell fast.

If Ali in his prime fought Tyson in his prime, Tyson may have won ONE fight but after that, Ali would come back to tear that ass up with TECHNIQUE.

Don't y'all remember how Michael Jordan developed the fadeaway jumper after he got too old to just drive to the basket and dunk it? Now let's see how Shaq does once somebody just as big and strong comes in the league...Shaq will get killed cause he has no heart.
