2257 for Dummies

Please post corrections if I'm wrong, and post additional information I omit. I know there is controversy about much of it, I'd like to try and keep this thread centered on what is generally agreed upon.

My understanding of the new 2257 is this:
  1. if you show hardcore, genitals, or kink, you need to comply.
  2. The authorities can give you a URL and you must be able to produce the paperwork with no further information.
  3. you need to have a copy of every version of every URL that contains nudity. (I think that means if you use an ad server, you need a printout of every possible version of every page.)
  4. Your paperwork must be organized alphabetically by real name, again by stage names, and again by URL. (or something like that, please clarify if you understand it.)
  5. digital copies of these records is sufficient.

Did I leave anything out?
Are there any errors?

someone else posted this URL, it looks like a good synopsis of the regs. It does not interpret them, though.

After reading all the "my lawyer said this - and our lawyer said that" it looks like the laywers are more confused than the webmasters. I dont trust anyone who charge for explaining something I should have learned in elementary school :1orglaugh
Best thing to do now, is to do what it says, and if something is in question... do it the safest way - don't ask others. :2 cents:

Well that's one way to look at it.

You can also look at it this way.
Since the regs on their face are very confusing and seem to contradict themselves and the law, the fact that you did seek counsel and followed the steps your counsel gave you could indeed be considered a mitigating factor when you stand before the judge for a violation.

You also left out the fact that it's US.

Get off your PC and take a drive up to Canada and set up shop. A lot nicer up there in comparison to the "mean streets" of Rhode Island.

The US market is DEAD.

Who do you think will dominate the industry? UK, Canada, Germany?
In betting on the UK. But I'm probably wrong.

It depends on where all the americans move to.

:)

I think the EU as a whole is a formidable and growing force of economy for all sectors of business (without the moral hangups/games of the US). I'm betting on EU and in Euro Dollars we trust!

Even if this 2257 silliness is 'resolved' it's just too much of a hassle to deal with US DOJ mentality (which does represent a legal majority).

Canada is already looking into filing trade complaints today because of the violations against our Privacy Laws being promoted by 2257.

There is no question that the US adult surfer $$$ market is huge, but when you weigh in the nuisance factors, real costs, and risks just because of american morality peddlers (again, a democratically legal majority of the population), the EU has much to offer as a market and business environment which definitely offsets and market losses.
