Good movie splitter?

Anyone know of a good and fast movie splitter that can also export vidcaps? Links appreciated, thanks.

Downloaded the trial earlier, movie showed up dark as hell and so did the split clips. Thanks for the suggestion though.

http://www.boilsoft.com/ is great for splitting
I bought X Video Converter http://www.aoamedia.com/videoconverter.htm which does all sorts of stuff (including taking pics from video). It can take pics every second etc - useful for promo tools. But, although i use it i hate the company. It crashes too and needs a v high processor to work. I contacted them numerous timesz and they dont particularly care (wankers).

Weird, I have a registered version of Boilsoft and the split files always looks good to me quality-wise. Only glitch is if you spit wmv's into many files (like say 100+) you can notice that they aren't exactly even in size for some reason.

I'm sure it works well for you, but for some reason it doesn't work for me. So I see no point in paying for the full version, even if it's chump change, if the trial can't cope with splitting a simple MPEG properly...

truth is the boilsoft utility is fine.

and a quick and easy way to make thumbs for galleries, etc is to use the webpage utility in Thumbs4, which will make an image thumb of the beginning frame of each segment made from the above utility.

screengrabs, i use a program called snatchit! which is now named frame-shots and a new version, i have not upgraded yet. nice batch and watermark, simple, i've trained a monkey to use it.

splitting mpegs and not blotching them is an issue because all mpegs arent created equal.

you can do them on a *nix machine with imagemagick.

vcd cutter and i-film edit always did them properly but vcd cutter will only split an mpeg into equal segments, not by time.

some apps create funky colors at the cut points, has to do with compliant vs non-compliant and or streaming vs non-streaming mpeg. at one point i tried to sort it out.

now i just export segmented avis in virtual dub and batch away.
