2257 - International law

If this shit ends up working and the FSC is denied an injunction, how would the US go about trying to invoke this as international law? I know there's probably no way really, but imagine if they try.... "if you don't adopt our 2257 laws, then you are terrorists"

just some random thoughts.

Kris The Knife 06-09-2005 11:09 PM

Yup it will be effect everyone. Everyone has to comply just because most of the sales are from US. If they don't comply, they won't get US sales. All the people saying we don't live in US, we won't be effected are idiots.

If you don't comply, your site will be blocked from US. Hosting outside of US won't help.

NTSS 06-09-2005 11:11 PM

The next move will be to lobby other countries to pass similar laws.

how can a offshore biller bill a US sale when this US guy can't visit your site?

your site will be barred from US = no us sales

the same exact ways offshore pharmacies bill spam sales from the us. you dont need a us billing company to accept us visa cards as many would like to make you think.

edit: what you mean when they cant visit your site? are you suggesting that there will be nationwide filters barring overseas hosts?

Kris The Knife 06-10-2005 12:09 AM

ryph - barring non compliant websites not hosts
not impossible is it?

Give me a break. With the amazing profits being made on online gambling, something totally illegal in the United States, you seriously want me to believe the US goverment can just "block" sites like some sort of magical fucking forest nymph?

"Henny Penny! Henny Penny!"
"What is it it Chicken Little?"
"The sky is fucking falling and worse yet I don't have model IDS, wah wah wah"

Utter bollocks! Do you really think that non US webmasters will be barred anytime soon from selling filth to the Americans ? The time they do try a blanket block they will be no porn left in the USA. You have to understand "little old rest of the world" have their own billers own hosts and can even shoot their own content. It does not start nor end with the USA.

angelsofporn 06-10-2005 01:52 AM

In the end if they get thier wish to end US involvement in online porn then the result would just be unregulated content. Resulting in harder core stuff...americans will still be able to access everything.
The french parliment debated this same issue last year and came to this exact conclusion. Funny how much more near sighted the US lawmakers are.
Well i guess in the US this is for votes, not the betterment of society as they try to have you believe...

Great post totally agree, people are saying "ohh well if your not in the US and your not applying these laws to the EXACT letter of the law or whatever then you won't be processing cause the US is going to ban ALL non US porn."

Give me a break

I'm so fuckin' amused by all those idiots who think that the whole world needs and has to obey US laws... You're fuckin' clueless. :)

TheSaint 06-10-2005 06:45 AM

No, this is a US law and effects US residents and/or companies only. The only reason you see non-US sites attempting to comply is because affiliates, content producers, etc., are often located in the U.S. There is not and will never be any sort of "blocking" in the U.S. - only China and similar banana republics do that.

There are no such thing as International Laws and if there were, 2257 would be far down the list. Why should other countries even listen, when US government don't even want to adapt the closest things, and more serious, to international "laws";
Geneva Convention
Kyoto Agreement
to name a few...
Besides that, there are other much clever ways to handle this. The difference is those who make the laws.

The difference is also " what is the real purpose of the law " ...

Maybe, along the way, they will say:

" Well, we tought they had MCP ( massive child porn) and tough we had not yet found it, it must be somewhere. But, don't forget, we got rid of a porn regime that was very very bad. We got rid of the badmans. Would you have prefered if we would have left them flourish, threaten or social value, supply that porn to ennemies ... Now, the world is much safer, and your kids can walk to the ice cream truck" ....

Yes. And with the diplomatic crisis, you can call it that, facing this century, I think it would be a major mistake to spend ressources on telling other western countries to implement something that should give up their civil rights in the name of something that is a "minor" problem, compared to other outlaw countries.
