Do you host all your sites at one place?

And if you do, do you have your stuff on different servers?

EviLGuY 06-09-2005 02:53 AM

I used to have 2 servers in different datacenters.. but I just recently finished moving to a new host up here in Canada due to all the 2257 crap. I'd probably split it up again if / when I can find another good reliable non-us host.

Also have two servers, but we are thinking on moving everything to our european host... Got a very nice offer for a secend server there if we do. But it feels a bit uneasy having all your stuff at one place.

Some people like hosting at one place while others like spreading out.... I think it is just personal preference.

Tempest 06-09-2005 03:06 AM

Used to have 4 servers with one company... They screwed around with a new contract... So I consolidated some stuff and now have 2 servers with 2 different companies and a couple virtual accounts with different companies.. Best to spread your stuff around... Nothing more stressing than having ALL your stuff down while the host has some problems.. And if you happen to have a hard drive crash or something... zero revenue happening... Just not smart in my opinion..

Anna_O 06-09-2005 03:39 AM

Any more input?

CDSmith 06-09-2005 03:42 AM

I've always been diverse. I'm spread out over more than 5 different hosts, some free, some not so free, a few are paid hosts but I have deals worked out with so it's free.

If any one of my hosts goes down or craps out on me in some way my income is only slightly affected.

Diverse. :D

Yep... but things will change

Vitasoy 06-09-2005 04:51 AM

Like the saying goes... don't keep all your eggs in one basket

Anna_O 06-09-2005 07:43 AM

Vitasoy = Thread Killer :warning

Terry 06-09-2005 07:55 AM

I use different companies.. never was a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket.

benc 06-09-2005 08:01 AM

My two cents. I used to always split it up but now I am consolidated.

Reasons......

it is more affordable. only have to pay managed fees etc at one place. And by having them all in once place you are using more bandwidth and can probably get a bit better deal.

in the event the host goes out of business or decide to change companies, it would make a smoother transistion to have all your sites moved from one server.

if you use something such as a banner rotation script to serve all the banners on a network of sites etc, if that host is down but the other is up, then all the banners will be broken.

if you use a password trading service, you only need to pay for one license.

i am thinking i should maybe get 2 diff servers. right now i have a good deal $250 for 20mbps server. maybe i might just spend the 500$ for 40mbps in total for 2 diff boxes

$250 for 20mbps ... that's cheap!!! Is that managed?

@ AnnaO - which European host did you choose?

We've been with mycyberhosting.net since 2002 and will probably move the rest of our sites there too. Atleast they will be on two different servers. Feeling a little uneasy about putting everything in one basket but we save lots of money on it too...

Basic_man 06-09-2005 09:59 AM

Everything is hosted @ RealityCheckNetwork.com :thumbsup

I recently moved about half a dozen of my sites to a single host then Google penalized me terribly. I'm gonna say if you can you should have every site on a different IP.

Antonio 06-09-2005 10:36 AM

2 hosts for now, I'll be getting virtuals with 3-4 more hosts soon

TheSaint 06-09-2005 11:11 AM

I would never host at one isp, no matter how good there is a chance of a catastropic failure or natural disaster. So I host about 50% at ThePlanet (texas) and 50% at Candid (florida). Each regional server pool gets hourly synched to the other side of the country, so I am ready for anything. On top of that I push weekly backups to a third location (New Jersey).

Sleep like a baby. :thumbsup

PbG 06-09-2005 02:38 PM

Yes and yes. Plus backups are on two other servers as well disks.

Nicky 06-09-2005 02:40 PM

I have 2 servers on 2 different hosts......

Jace 06-09-2005 02:40 PM

i have 7 hosts so far, and I get a new account about once a month

kernelpanic 06-09-2005 02:41 PM

Two different hosts - Layered Technologies and ThePlanet

I do have bunches of small accounts on many different hosts for the sake of SEO, but those aren't exactly things I paid for or use actively.
