NHL Players Owers Agree On Salary Cap

For those still interested in the NHL. Looking pretty good:

The two sides in the NHL lockout have agreed on a salary-cap system, eliminating the biggest stumbling block to the resumption of play next season, according to a Canadian newspaper's website.

On the bright side NHL Center Ice should be dirt cheap next season.

I bet they still fuck us on the prices to games and on the price for watching it on tv. Since less people will watch they will charge more :)

The bullheadedness on both sides has all but killed interest in the sport. And what they need is a level salary base for ALL players, coupled with a performance bonus system, so that the better players have the opportunity to EARN extra millions rather than just be fucking handed it.

They will LOWER prices not raise them. They need people in the stands and to watch on TV. Besides Hockey and Baseball are like $150 for the year with their TV deals and the NFL is $230 for 16 games.

it took mlb years to even approach their pre-strike numbers and baseball is far more popular than hockey ever was. this won't kill hockey but it will severely injure it for at least the next decade. the days of fedorov-type contracts are all but over. they won't see a dime of my money for at least a year. that's the only way the consumer can punish both sides for drawing this thing out for so long. idiocy all around.

I don't know how popular baseball is anymore. I mean it's 3rd behind the NFL and the NBA. The NHL has never been popular in the US so how much did it reallyget hurt. Besides it looks like the NBA is looking at a lockout of it's own so if that happens the NHL has a good chance to make itself be seen if they do it right. I've said years ago that once widescreen HDTV become standard(and they are by the day ) the NHL will attact more fans. Trying to watch a game and a standard TV is no joy.
