Lensman, Webcamcash , Jesus Christ

WTF we are "where the industry meets" but we cant figure out how to set flash ads by cookie ?? Theres is NO reason to display it on every refresh, makes no sense unless your trying to get people to HATE webcamcash or something.

Im going to be brutally honest, I LOVED THE WEBCAMCASH flash overlay ad. Its great. BUT i have seen it 5 zillion times already and now i fucking HATE IT. I LOVE THE DESIGN, i dont like the fact you made the close button show up after the ad is displayed.

Anyways its just my :2 cents: but i really dont see how turning something i initially LOVED into something i now hate is a good thing..

candyflip 06-08-2005 11:50 AM

You had to see it that many times to make up for the impressions lost by 90% of the rest of us using Firefox. :winkwink:

After Shock Media 06-08-2005 11:52 AM

I could not agree more.

Donny 06-08-2005 11:59 AM

I've never seen it a single time. Apple.com will solve your problem.

SmokeyTheBear 06-08-2005 11:59 AM

with cookies you could set this ad however you want , every hour , once a day etc.. every ten views etc etc and it doesnt take a genious to figure it out either, my daughter could do that in her sleep.

Trent Edison 06-08-2005 11:59 AM

If you can pay more than webcamcash, i am sure Lensman will think about.

Luc 06-08-2005 12:01 PM

i see it every time i close and reopen browser, but not every time i refresh. so if i go back and refresh now it won't show, but if i close gfy and come back in an hour it will. annoying, but i think your cookies are fucked up if you see it every time.

candyflip 06-08-2005 12:02 PM

Had to open up IE to see it.

Can definitely see how that would be annoying after the first time.

chupachups 06-08-2005 12:02 PM

I hate(d) it too..... get avant browser > deactivate flash

Manowar 06-08-2005 12:02 PM

the people posting engrish to win their sig contest is a bit more annoying imho

Donny 06-08-2005 12:04 PM

Apple + Safari = no annoying pop up

JohnnyUtah 06-08-2005 12:05 PM

I must admit that I figured that it was gonna be over by monday...
But no... still see the fucking baseball at least 15 times a day.

Tired of it

It wasn't directed at just lensman. I'm just saying in my opinion its not good business practise thats all. Lensman and webcamcash may have a completely different opinion, thats cool too.

I have my own gfy browser that shows no ads and no flash its a standalone program that sists quietly on your desktop , but thats not the point. I like the ads , its a usefull part of gfy.

Actually - ad on every refresh + no cookie + no immediate close button = badwill

tranza 06-08-2005 12:12 PM

I've never seen that add...

Is it because of Firefox?

BlueWire 06-08-2005 12:13 PM

LENS - Enforce some policies on flash overlay ads (i.e. no sound and pre-load close button).

WEBCAMCASH - Learn to use cookies and take a course in usability.

Also, I hope webcamcash is aware of the fact that a large % of GFYers use firefox and therefore do not even see the overlay. IMHO, a board skin would yield a higher rate of return as everybody can see it.

Mostly good advice , i will tell you a few things you might miss..

If its brings controversy all those firefox users will at least open i.e. to see it right.. so i'm sure almost everyone see's the ad, even on gfy firefox users make up a small minority anyways..

Lens did enforce the rules on all flash ads in the top , but the overlays are special so they dont have to follow the rules. * but bluewire could have made the exit button open on the first frame not on the last frame too. ( still a bit of a hassle but not a huge deal )

I dont think webcam cash had a choice because the cookie setting would likely want to be done by gfy so as not to conflict , but they could have easily asked for it to be done this way.

taibo 06-08-2005 12:26 PM

more power to u

Lensman 06-08-2005 12:28 PM

It only pops every 2.5 hours, if you see it everytime, go here: http://www.web-assist.com/cookies.html

That said, next time there has to be a close button present from the beginning and at the top right.

BTW it comes down at 6 PM 2nite.

Think of it as "upgrading" to Firefox
:thumbsup

After Shock Media 06-08-2005 12:30 PM

Aside from it opening every time I refresh (which I figured out how to stop) my biggest issues are both design related. The close link after it fully plays is just stupid, and then the fucking close button it is not completely linked, you must click literally the O in closed.

cool beans. btw if i didnt make it clear enough I LOVE THE FLASH OVERLAYS :thumbsup

If the close button was on the first frame i would still watch the ad's its not like i'm going to hit the close button the first time i see the ad..

Not sure why the cookie setting on my laptop would be screwy they work fine on my own cookie setting ads, but thanks for the tip ( i guess i dont know everything haha )

ATL_Ryan 06-08-2005 12:34 PM

Everytime I close it the thread links where the ad was don't work.

Its all up to personal opinion but of the 100 sites i visit most regularly . Firefox cant view them properly and i.e. can so... its a downgrade any way you look at it for me anyways.

Sometimes if your on a slow computer the flash will lockup one of the frames "sort of " over where it was , Thats kind of an i.e./flash problem in all flash.

Yup.. ads don't bother me either.. although this one popping all the time did.

Black Dog 06-08-2005 01:38 PM

If it's any consolation, I have to watch the banner every time it pops, too. And I paid for the damn thing! :)

However it doesn't pop EVERY time for me. Maybe just a few times a day. It wasn't supposed to pop every time and if it does for you then I apologize.

A few people are complaining that it is popping every time. This is something that GFY will need to address for the future. ... Lensman are you reading this?
