If you are found drunk, with the keys in the ignition of your car, you will be found guilty of DUI also

Flying the plane is only a part of the official defintion of "operating" the plane. Even a walk around visual check is part of the definition of "operating" a plane. The guilty verdict was justified...now the question is will they serve prison time and how much.
