My 18 year old dog......

Is at the vet this morning....getting fluids thru i.v. to hopefully flush out some sort of virus or infection, we're not sure which, she just turned ill a week ago.

otherwise she still acts like a puppy at 18....still runs around, rolls around in the yard, does everything like a normal healthy dog.

I've had her since i was 7 years old....& because she's been around so long, shes a huge part of my life, if something happens to her, i'd just lose it....yea i know 18 is like almost impossible for a dog of her size to reach, but i dunno, its hard to prepare to see a good friend & family member go...i hope shes ok :(

sonofsam 06-07-2005 08:09 AM

Your dogs had a REALLY long life :thumbsup

I know animals can be just like another family member, so best of luck to you and i'm sure shes had a great life since you obviously care that much about her... best of luckpr0

pr0,
I hope she is ok too. What kind of dog is she? As you mentioned, no matter what kind of dog, 18 is a long and full life. For that you should be proud.
Just said a prayer for your little angel, hope she comes home to you soon.

I read anything over 10 yrs is a gift with dogs. I hope your dog feels better but you should start to come to terms its not going to live forever.

LittleSassy 06-07-2005 08:12 AM

she's getting old...prepare for the worse...muhahahaha!!just kiddin

i hope your dog's okay now.

GatorB 06-07-2005 08:13 AM

Your dog has lived almost twice as long as the average dog. According to guinness you dog needs to live another 11 years to set a record.

Tim 06-07-2005 08:19 AM

All the best - 18 is very old and wise!

She's a golden retriever mix....Picked her up as a tiny puppy at the SPCA in 1987

She's a little smaller than an average retriever...maybe 2/3rds

HarrytheNazi 06-07-2005 08:21 AM

best wishes

smack 06-07-2005 08:22 AM

My dog Sully isn't far behind at 16, and he too is still just like a big puppy running around the yard and wallowing in the grass.

I hope your dog pulls through this quickly pr0, so you can continue enjoying every minute you have left with her :D

she lived long enough, sometimes you need to learn how to let go.

That's an amazing age for a dog to reach. I hope she recovers; best wishes to you both.

I lost an 18 year old a couple years ago. As she got older I had said it would be a long time before I would even consider another one but as fate would have it I ended up taking in a couple of little ones that needed emergency placement or were headed to the pound. Turned out to be the best thing overall. :)

gecko 06-08-2005 05:24 AM

Sarah_Jayne 06-08-2005 08:33 AM

My childhood dog lived to 15...I still miss her but she had a good life.

effer 06-08-2005 05:43 PM

18yrs old?? jesus. Ever wonder if, like, during a camping trip you accidently swapped her for another camper's dog, similar looking but much younger. Maybe you've actually had like 3 or 4 dogs. 18 is unreal! Let her go in peace..

Spunky 06-08-2005 05:46 PM

Hope bowser is ok and gets better..I know how close I am to my pets

i fell your pain man, my best friend's dog died recently, he had him for 15 years, it was horrible. I have a dog that's 12 years old, and one that's 2 years old, I don't have any idea what will happen when it's time for the older, keep your head up man

Kiwigirl 06-08-2005 05:49 PM

Sorry to hear about your dog. I hope it's health improves. :(
Animals are apart of the family, in my life I love my animals more than I do some of my family members. :)

sniperwolf 06-08-2005 06:04 PM

we've had a number of dogs for the past few years and just seeing them in great pain sure breaks a heart of stone...i have this dog now who got ill a a couple of years ago.. we thought he's dying... he got so nasty and moody...the worst he lost big lbs...it sucks... then good thing everthing got well in place.. He is now one hell of a best friend..a strong..athletic lab retriever ..the yellow one.. his two brother/sister is coloured black and we got the yellow. I so love this Dog.. sometimes when I go out of the house and he sees me.. he would make this dog barking thing ..just to catch my attention..he's big now and i could just fell off when he jumps on me...oh well..he's getting old and i bet it's gonna be hard again for us to see another friend go..

err... a few blocks from our house a friend wants his dog to get a hump..we are happy to know that our STud is getting all the attention...and breeding...oooh that's cool!!! :thumbsup

I hope your dog gets well soon.. Best health for her!

pr0 06-08-2005 06:20 PM

Just an update, she's feeling alot better today, she got rehydrated at the vet, & she's eating normally again. Of course im keeping her inside 24-7 to keep her out of the heat & all. I'm hoping she makes a full recovery from this illness.

my 15 year old dog died in December. it's horrible - i still am not over it, can't stop thinking about her whenever i see the places she hung out, bathroom, backyard, and den. i thought maybe this summer i would start looking for a puppy but I'm not ready at all - feel way too guilty to just replace her like that.

18 is amazing for a dog, hope you get another couple years with her.
