xxxregistry.org

Saw this site advertised on GFY, isn't another scam is it ?. :2 cents:

alexg 06-07-2005 06:39 AM

just saw this too...

bump

alexg 06-07-2005 06:45 AM

i don't get it..
how can they have any influence on the future registration of .xxx domains when officialy it hasn't started yet..

my bet is this is just a scam. maybe they will even refund the "pre registrarion" money for the domains they can't register but those that they can, will be domains that are just available and could have been registered by anyone and they'll just take $5 for nothing...

alexg 06-07-2005 06:46 AM

sorry for the broken english in the above post but i hope you get the point

alexg 06-07-2005 06:49 AM

btw why do they charge $75 per domain?
wtf

I thought it might be a scam, but i didn't think Lensman would allow the ad on GFY if it's a scam. ?

well maybe this thread will change things

we need more info though

polish_aristocrat 06-07-2005 07:00 AM

no need for 2 threads about it

and IMO the only bad thing with their service is that they charge already $75, so if you preregister 100 names, you will be billed $7500 lol

i would have no problems paysing the non refundable $5 fee, but not $75 per domain

I took a chance... again.

teksonline 06-07-2005 05:54 PM

.xxx a reality? no fucking chance in hell... please give me your money, If im wrong I will double it back!

teksonline 06-07-2005 05:56 PM

I need to be more specific in my last post, by .xxx becoming a reality meaning the government enforcing us to use it for adult content... There's no chance, my .com's have been branded with millions of dollars over the last 9 years, are they going to buy me out? or pay me for moving, They would if i owned the business building, and my .com domain is my business building on the internet.

I e-mailed Stuart Lawley, Chairman & President of ICMRegistry.com about xxxregistry.org today, and here is the response I received.

"I cannot speak of this company at all.
What I can tell you is there is NO WAY for anyone to sell or register these
names at this time and will not be for several months at least.
They will only be sold through ICANN accredited registrars.
If you read their site carefully you will see they are not promising
anything at all, as they are unable to do so.
They are just volunteering to put you on a list they are creating , which
will have no bearing on our release or allocation of any names whatsoever.

Thanks for bring this to our attention.

Stuart Lawley
President
ICM Registry Inc"

It's for you to decide, but if you ask me, it's a great way to make $5/domain for doing absolutely nothing, AND also cash in on all the interest that they will make on holding ALL that money. :2 cents:

its a PRE-registration folks ... just like every other pre-registration of a new TLD

they are done all the time by registrars

the registrar behind this one is not a scam, its domain name systems - one of the largest registrars especially for our industry ;)

the 75 dollars is what ICANN estimated the cost of the domain to be, nobody can control that cost other then them. If they change the rate, customer gets refunded. If the registering of the domain doesn't go through .. customer gets refunded.

Most of the old timers know Gord, if you have a question why don't you just email their support, I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any of your questions just as they did mine :)

Did you take the time to read the Response from the Chairman of .xxx? Did you ask them if they are ICANN accredited registrar ? If they are not they cant sell them.

vicki 06-07-2005 09:06 PM

tony
any registrar can sell them as long as they have access into the registries hon

DNS has been selling domains for 6 years and to many of the largest adult programs around

once again the CEO of ICM registry said if they are not ICANN acredited its not going to happen. I think he knows what he is talking about since .xxx is his.

I saw people selling .info & .tv & .biz before they were released and you could register them there but only 40% of the world could see them and it didn't effect how they were owned when they finally launched.

Sounds like a scam to me

vicki 06-07-2005 09:14 PM

oh I completely agree with that Tony, I wasn't discounting his knowing what he is talking about as far as selling domains .. what he failed to mention is that resellers have the same backbone into the registries as any other registrar

thats what I meant

Money talks and how does Lensman know if it's a scam or not?

Gator 06-07-2005 09:25 PM

My advice though, buyer beware.
