Why do people make threads announcing how many posts they have?

Seriously, what gives?. Hell, don't get me wrong, I think I might have even made one of those threads at some point, but what's the reasoning behind them?

seeric 06-06-2005 09:57 PM

should have used your 3k mark to make this post. :)

I think that one good post after making 1000 or whatever to explain who you are is cool :thumbsup

okay, this makes sense... to use it as a vehicle to get some attention to ones product....

is that the only reason, though?

For me it was and it took me 3 years to get there :winkwink:

I love the ones where they say "Hit 3,000 posts and didn't even notice" and make a thread on post 3003. It happens so often here it has to be some psychological deal shared by many weak minded webmasters.

adonthenet 06-06-2005 10:42 PM

couse they have too!

woj 06-06-2005 11:48 PM

I agree, posting "I reached 1000 posts" just for the sake of posting is pretty stupid...

alan-l 06-06-2005 11:55 PM

well, that's an achievement, one sheep posts "whoaaa I made {put number here} posts" and the remaining sheeps in the heard posts. "Congrats {smilie}" or "way to go {smilie}"

Keep in mind that for 90% of people in this board that's the only benchmark they'll ever hit :(

This is funny, although true. Even if you post a lot of horseshit, people will look up to you if you have a high postcount. Sure, some will regard you as a stupid postwhore, but then again others will be willing to do business with you, based on the fact that you are known. There's a business opportunity around each corner, and having a high postcount will open quite a few doors that otherwise would stay closed.

mrthumbs 06-07-2005 12:02 AM

I like numbers. And since you obviously noticed my 9k post today:

ive spend .. no wasted.. fucking 9000 * 30 seconds average (how many hours is that....?) @ gfy..

So when you reach a certain point where you paid for something with your life and basicly get nothing material in return you tend to celebrate litte things like postcount ;)

naugthygUrL 06-07-2005 01:25 AM

Because they're either whores or it's their job to plaster as many posts as they can for pageviews.

Sites try to sell the surfers, programs try to sell webmasters. Welcome to marketing or degenerate board whores - take your pick.

While it may be true for the bigger part, let's not forget one legitimate part of making a lot of posts. If you do post a lot, and do so using your head instead of acting like a stupid sigwhore, it's bound to help you create some nice business relationships. It's networking, without having spend money to meet people face to face.

kernelpanic 06-07-2005 01:33 AM

to get more posts

kernelpanic 06-07-2005 01:33 AM

or sig spots

kernelpanic 06-07-2005 01:34 AM

get the idea?

Yea...that's obviously the fuckin' case. That's why the sigwhores and post sluts go wild and act like chimps trying to figure out a rubick's cube when their internet message board reputation is questioned or they might face being banned.

Good luck with your message board networking.

CDSmith 06-07-2005 01:44 AM

Thread views.

Sig views.

It's all about the views, and posting a "****10k****" thread is just another reason to start a thread.

I question the mental status of those who feel the need to make such a thread for every insignificant 1000 increment they achieve though. 3000? please. 7,000? who the hell cares! 10k is something, 20k is a milestone worth mentioning, maybe 25k, 30k etc.... but 2 and 3k? Totally abusing the spirit of the post-count post! :D

Why? Because postcount rules. Everyone knows, the larger your postcount, the larger your cock

:pimp :pimp :pimp

I was obviously not referring to the brainless sigwhores. If you had read my post properly then you would've noticed my mentioning "using your head". If you know how to use it, a message board can be worth gold, in terms of making connections.

hehe, yeah, your thread prompted this one. :)

that kind of sucks actually, that this board drained you like that, though. :(

Good christ man...I know I've slammed you other places but for fuck's sake - 22K posts here with your 1000's of posts elsewhere you've reached the realm of board whore cum laude.

If it takes you 30 seconds for each post here that's 183 hours you've spent posting on this board alone...that's just fuckin' pathetic. You've spent over a month at 40 hours a week posting on one message board.

fuck...

tradermcduck 06-07-2005 02:58 AM

Post count is bs ...
