Yo gfy moms / dads

my daugther is almost 5 months old
we want to start her on cereal ( rice / oatmeal stuff )
the doc said " do what you feel is best "

but just want to get a general opinion on when you started on mush foods and when did you start with semi solids ?

Thanks ,
Chris

as long as its mush you should be ok. make it yummy though. mash some bannanas or other fruit in it.

Most definitely - I know that when I had my son the rule was '3 months' and nowadays they say '6 months' or when you feel comfortable. The important thing is that you start them off with one at a time - in other words, feed her rice cereal for a week or two first, so if she develops any allergies, you'll be able to diagnose things quickly.

Give her some rice cereal with fruit stuff in it. Mushy food is good for her at this age. Anything solid will make her gag.

My son started on cereal mixed with bananas and formula when he was a month old. He had a wicked metabolism and it was the only way he could be filled up. A lot of people told me I was nuts but the Dr. recommended it and my son loved it! :)

We are gonna start her on veggies first so she doesnt get addicted to sweet tasting food early :/

if they can swallow it, they are ok with it. Make sure you make it fairly watery at first, but gung ho with the rice cereal.

one more thing which im sure you already know. use a small spoon to prevent yourself from giving the baby too much. its amazing how big of a mouthful a baby can have, they just cant swallow it. its a lot cleaner too. :winkwink:

My 2 1/2 month old son has been on rice and oat meal ceral for a couple of weeks now.
He also started peas and carrots a couple of days ago alomg with some blueberries.
He was drinking alot of formula a day, so I decided it was time for him to start on baby food.
So far so good, he had no problems digesting the food.

Go with what you're instinct tell ya to do.

Well I think I'd wait until she has several teeth before I start on semi-solids. I really can't remember when my son started eating cereal type tuff that was over 9 years ago. Cream of wheat and shit like that had tons of iron in it so be careful with stuff like that. It can give you baby a real bad case of constitpation and funky looking poo. And I assume you know don't give honey to your baby.

Anyways I found this

Just mix the cereal a fruit in the formula and get the nipples with the larger opening.

make it sure the mush foods is watery enough for the baby to swallow...as i remember,my baby was 4 months old when i started out giving her gerber 1 with different fruit & vegies flavors, she loves the sweet flavored but not the cereal...you just gotta make it sure that u wont over fed her, sometimes we find it exciting to feed her especially for those first timers...

happy feeding chris :)

doctors wanted us to not give my 3 cereal or solids for at least 6 months and only formula/breast feeding. I tried it with my first and she was not a happy camper and had colic and was a generally fussy little crybaby. I said screw that and fed both of my boys at 10 days a small amount of cereal mixed with their formula and they both were sleeping through the night at less than two weeks. The boys both skipped jar baby food and went straight to blended baby food at about 4 months. If a baby seems to need more then it's not going to hurt them if you're careful about how you feed them and ensure that it's not a choking hazard (very small bites, thinned out, etc.)

we just started rice cereal at 5 months, he loves it!
doctor said slowly introduce, then when he's used to it add some fruit and do the same.
