Beware of http://www.xxxregistry.org and pre-registrations

Just got this:

Pre-Registration for .XXX Opens

June 1st, 2005 ICANN announced the assignment of a new TLD .xxx. With adult entertainment being the fastest growing and largest industry online, we are expecting an extremely high volume of interest, so to protect your current namespace or to grab your desired domain we suggest that pre-registration is your best solution. .XXX is for those clients in the adult name space who want to take the responsible approach by making their website clearly identifiable. Empowering families, protecting children and others from unwanted and or inapporpriate content. The adult entertainment industry benefits from this responisble self -regulation by making it easier for those that want to use their products or services to find them. It is seen as a positive response to the demands of child and family safety groups ensuring internet safety, while maintaining the privacy, security and consumer protection rights and concerns of their audience.

Pre-registration for .xxx begins immediately and is offered by www.xxxregistry.org. We will be submitting these pre-registrations to the registry when it goes live on your behalf on the several connections that we have to the registry itself. Although there will be no gaurentee that you will successfully be awarded your desired domain, due to the numerous connections that we will be maintaining with the registry chances of success through xxxregistry.org is raised over trying to manually register your domain one at a time when the registry opens to the public.

For more information on this service and or to pre-register for your .xxx domain please go to, www.xxxregistry.org

Don't fall for it. $75 pre-registrations yeah ok. I can tell you from first hand none of these sites ever get any domain.

DomainNameSystems.com is behind this

they are not an approved ican registrant, so they just resell someone. Go figure what privileges you get over the rest..........

Theo 06-07-2005 02:42 AM

ah,lovely they got a banner here

tradermcduck 06-07-2005 02:49 AM

Thanks for the info Soul_Rebel, looking at their website it is obviously a 'scam'

SmokeyTheBear 06-07-2005 02:49 AM

I will offer the same service for only $10 per domain ...

As soon as they are available for purchase i will use my high speed connection to try and get them for you. :)

SmokeyTheBear 06-07-2005 02:51 AM

not a bad scam really , i dont see anything ilegal or wrong about it..

Some people wont be waiting by the second for when the registration becomes live, so why not hire someone to do it for you..

SmokeyTheBear 06-07-2005 02:53 AM

wtf $80 hahah

Theo 06-07-2005 02:54 AM

im not saying its a scam, but chances to get the domain are minimal. Request them more info regarding through which registrants they will get them. I wont be surprised if none has got any approval so far for .xxx extension. Their $5/domain fee is non-refundable.

That's why I wrote 'scam' and not scam, however preregistration sounds like I can secure myself porn.xxx now...

Brujah 06-07-2005 06:54 AM

The names were registered before for very little cost. The high cost is a new thing. This is a Domain Name Systems site.

Theo 06-07-2005 06:57 AM

hi brujah, can you be more specific on what you mean they were registered before?

how do they decide which domains are already 'not available'

for example i used xxxregistry.org to "check the availability" of sexygirls.com
and it said it was unavailable

Cains 06-07-2005 07:10 AM

http://www.domainnamesystems.com/

"Alternate Registry of the .xxx and .sex domains."

http://www2.domainnamesystems.com/xxx/info.html

since .sex does not exist and is not on the list of ssTLDs proposed to ICANN, this is highly likely to be a scam.

'alternative registry' well that's odd since ICM is the only registrar to take orders for .xxx since it wants to keep extensive records of domain owners.

My guess is 'alternative registry' means;
1. we've registered a domain and will let you buy a subdomain, On the second link it says "This page is being modified to reflect the new .xxx.us name space" so i'm guessing for your $75 you get a subdomain of .xxx.us

OR

2. Another crap program like new.net claiming to be a registry when all they do is install spyware

FilthyRob 06-07-2005 07:11 AM

damn, another scam bites the dust

what's bs? how many of the .biz .info domain you preregistered you really got? I'll tell you in advance none.

jayeff 06-07-2005 07:26 AM

Surely there can't be such a shortage of advertisers on GFY that it is necessary to take money from such an obvious scam?

I read the terms yesterday because I was morbidly curious. Needless to say I wouldn't dare drop a penny with them.

galleryseek 06-07-2005 08:57 AM

don't you people dare make the mistake of doubting soul rebel's word... he will terminate your life force in an instant with the help of 2pac.

Nysus 06-07-2005 09:02 AM

I had a domain with DomainNameSystems.com, and it happened to disappear from my list when I'd log in and now is registered by someone else; it wasn't up for expirey.

Someone else on another board recently posted about someone stealing his domain, and sounded as if it was same way.

Perhaps they have a bug or a hacker, but if they're offering pre-registrations for $80 ... I imagine they'll accept 10,000+ pre-registrations each for hardcore.xxx free.xxx sex.xxx etc... if that many people fell into it.

Years ago, the .sex and .xxx names were able to be reserved through them or purchased through them for a small price. I believe it was around $15 or maybe even $10 if not mistaken. They were also suing New.Net if I'm not mistaken ?

Anyway, many people had already registered/reserved a lot of the .xxx names and that's why many are probably still taken if you try to search for some available names.

As a registrar trusted by and with a lot of old school adult clients, he's picked up some incredible names himself as they expired.

Theo 03-24-2006 03:23 PM

The .xxx pre-registrations are currently offline due to legal discussions with ICANN, the US Dept of Commerce and other parties.
