First things that will happen with .xxx domains

.xxx will be banned from every e-mail service provider, chat room, blog, msg board, club, & just about anything else where users can trade links, link to their favorite site etc. thus inhibiting free speech

under the guise of "blocking spam"

i'll never use a .xxx

you may be right

I only see value in the typeins and premium names.

And search engines will punish them too!

mrthumbs 06-05-2005 06:49 PM

I dont see the problem: one can still advertise a .xxx on a .com... so who gives a shit?

Kevsh 06-05-2005 06:50 PM

This will take a while with so many orphaned sites, lazy site owners, etc. etc. that to write in code to block .xxx's registering/posting etc. will - for many - be a very low priority.

If the sky falls, it won't happen overnight.

Correct.

.Xxx may pass as a TLD, but I highly doubt they will ever be mandatory for websites with adult content. That would be true inhibition of free speech and against the first amendment.

stev0 06-05-2005 08:08 PM

would cause problems with people using existing new.net software

porn is not free speech lol

KRL 06-05-2005 08:20 PM

However it goes, there is zero benefit to use .xxx, except for the major type-ins that get grabbed for traffic.

Yes it is. Even this right wing leaning Supreme Court has recognized (in split decisions) that porn is protected by the Constitution.

If Bush gets to replace any of the moderates on the court, you might turn out to be right.

I'm not aware of any rulings the supreme court has made declaring porn free speech. I know they said COPA was too broad but that was because of other issues, not protecting porn.

If the rash of prosecutions some fear materializes it will be done under the terms of "community standards" and obscenity.
