question for you guys who host tons of movies
ok, so what's the best tech fix for this:
i noticed as time goes by that more and more surfers are on very high speed connections and like to go to the movie galleries and download multiple movies at once. and if you have 10 guys at the same time doing this the server will start to bog down. what's the best thing to do to improve server performance? thanks! |
More BW helps
|
If you are running your own server you can do some packet shaping via iptables that will help.
|
just get better one and more BW
|
yep more bandwidth would help
|
limit the number of downloads they can do at once or switch to streaming video so they cant download it just watch it.
|
will more RAM help? this is a single IDE HD box only used for movie gallery marketing, it never seems to bust 10mps on an average day.
hmmm, maybe it does bust 10mps when i've got several of these high speed users on at once? |
Better host, multiple L/B servers, more B/W :2 cents:

10mbs is nothing for movie gals. |

Technically serving movies you should be able to get more bandwidth out of your box then serving pics.
The reason is, these files are large and consecutive so its very easy on the harddrive to grab and serve data, as compared to hundreds of little pics. Chances are if you're seeing problems then your apache or OS is misconfigured Give me a buzz on ICQ: 4930562 -- I might be able to help you out |

1) Server with lots of ram 2) More Bandwidth 3) Antihotlinking software 4) Optimize your OS and apache :thumbsup |
