ICANN Publishes Proposed Agreement on .MOBI

ICANN has completed negotiations with the Applicant for .MOBI sponsored top-level domain. The Agreement and Appendices have been posted on the ICANN website and submitted to the ICANN Board for approval.

IMO - every decision to approve a new domain extension is based solely on $$$ factors. The original domain name system of 3 gTLD's - .com, .net and .org as well as .gov for governments and .mil for military + country extensions for each country, like .fr for France or .pl for Poland was perfect.

I understand that they could take the risk to introduce .biz and .info ( they don't sound too bad ) 4 years ago, but does anyone know that they also introduced .museum and .aero 4 years ago? :error

Nowadays, apart from the controversial .xxx, also .travel and .jobs are introduced, and such extensions as .tel or .asia are being discussed.

Anyone sees the sense in it? IMO it will only add to surfer confusion and increase the expences of companies that will want to secure their trademarks in every extension possible :helpme

For sure.

I imagine it could be a bit of a chore to track down a bunch of different people that are using my trade marked name in their domain name. IE Mycompany..museum and mycompany.aero

Besides that, like you said its going to be extremely confusing for surfers.

I have to agree with you.. its for the $$$
The market for Typeins and domainsquadding wil explode.. the customers dont know what the fuck they should type in - face it, most surfers dont know shit about those things, and should never have to worry about it

bingo, IMO the system should just stay how it is, without any changes in the next years

ICANN has always had their heads up their arses and palms out for greasing.

What should have been done from the get-go was an organized, sensible tld arena. They are TRYING to accomplish it now -after the fact- but like all things ICANN touches .. they aren't going about it in a logical manner. Some of their choices are just plain silly imho

I wonder when they'll start selling personalized extensions for $X per year and $X per domain added. Would be nice to see some tld's run by intelligent business people.
