How many people here are going Mainstream cuz of 2257/.xxx/other regulations issues?

Due to all the recent legal/regulatory action re online adult, anyone here moving over to Mainstream? Or at least, branching out? I've been doing eBay for quite some time now and it's now 70% of my income. What's your story?

tony286 06-03-2005 10:55 PM

thats great your success on ebay, mainstream is very hard online it takes lots of money. I worked for a mainstream dot com before doing adult, I did traffic its not like adult.

Mr. Marks 06-03-2005 10:56 PM

eBay is so underappreciated by webmasters as a revenue source... As long as you have a NICHE product, you got it. But this is just one segment of ecommerce, there's tons out there. Stock newsletters, link directories, specialty products, financial lead products, you name it. So what are YOU into?

clickhappy 06-03-2005 10:56 PM

I dont understand how people make money on ebay.
The buyers are looking for cheap deals, so you have to buy cheap and sell cheap. How do you make a profit?
The only way I could figure out was charging high shipping cost.

TheJimmy 06-03-2005 10:57 PM

I quit hosting nude images over 3 years ago as I saw this writing on the wall then...never looked back...

.moving even more mainstream shortly though, who knows the dating/cam world can be targetted hard pretty soon I imagine, so even with my nonnude promotion, I'm not willing to test those waters indefinitely...

there's a WORLD of cash to be had online in many areas...

. :thumbsup

Buy even cheaper! There's sites online that sell shit to you below WHOLESALE you have them drop ship. You have to handle the sales support though :( Depending on your PRODUCT this can be a BITCH or it can be really easy. I was lucky to get into a really low sales support product line. :thumbsup

Yep. And the changes aren't even finished yet. I'm sure there will be more "bad news" re online adult. My prediction is that 5 years from now you won't even RECOGNIZE online adult from its current form/biz models.

Merrioc 06-03-2005 11:03 PM

I've already moved on. Well half way, I still do custom code for select clients, but most my work is now mainstream (ringtones baby) make more with that then I have in adult but I still don't have a Ferrari

I totally agree man, my goal is to have my cam/dating cashflow to be only 25% of my income within the next 6months and to be 75% pure mainstream...

loads of money out there, a lot of work, sure, but I like sleeping well at night, and since I'm not a direct content producer, nor was I ever, worrying about someone else handing me over correct documentation is a liability I'd NEVER want to hassle with...

hosting victoria secret style images is pushing it for me these days :)

Ringtones = HUGE. Don't get tricked into believing it's a fad. It's a huge biz. Plus the differing directions it can go would give any SERIOUS businessman a woody.

Moving slowly into some mainstream ventures, I dont host any pics, all text so I really could care less about 2257 and such. .XXX doesnt worry me neither. Theres just too many mainstream areas to cash in on. Adult has become boring and typical, face it, its nothing more than tits and ass and after so long its just flat out boring. Nothing new or appealing in the adult industry. Same ole shit, which it will always be, seeing as its nothing more than tits and ass we are selling. :2 cents:

Merrioc 06-03-2005 11:16 PM

ringtones is doing rather well for me... still looking for a partner on it... its got a very simular marketing model to adult.

I've actually thought about doin those ringtone sites for sale on ebay

I might go back to ebaying

BruceM 06-03-2005 11:29 PM

We are adding a more mainstream site to our program portfolio despite 2257. There is a huge market in natural remedies and we have already enjoyed great success with Leading Edge Cash. Now we just launched http://www.naturesdrugstore.com which is a completely mainstream herbal store.

mahoney 06-03-2005 11:36 PM

I have a mainstream site and it's converting at 1 in 30. It's really sad
how the Man is fucking us over under the guise of protecting the childeren.
These new laws are going to be really bad for the veterans of Childhood

OG LennyT 06-04-2005 12:09 AM

I made a thread earlier about diversifying your online business... new regulations make it all the more important.

Rui 06-04-2005 03:02 AM

Personaly i'm working on have like 40% adult and 60% mainstream by the end of the year...lots of hardwork but it will be worthy

EviLGuY 06-04-2005 03:19 AM

I went over 50% mainstream back in 2000 when non-adult afiliate programs started to get their shit together. I am not too worried about 2257 or .xxx myself though.

We're mostly mainstream. We still do data entry and research and other tasks for adult webmasters but all TEXT CONTENT we do is Mainstream. See sig for service breakdown.

Major (Tom) 06-04-2005 04:01 AM

we aint going no where :)

KRL 06-04-2005 04:04 AM

Always had mainstream since the beginning. I learned that lesson of always having a balance of adult and mainstream programs in the 900 biz.

Been focusing more on mainstream sites for 3 years now.
